    Kimber .22 conversion magazines question

So I got the Kimber .22 conversion kit for my Kimber 1911!

The only problem is that I have a magwell on the bottom of the pistol, and the Kimber mag is made in such a way that you cannot trim the mag so it will fit.

Yes I could take the magwell off of the pistol when using the .22 kit, but I ask you what, if any, other .22 mags cycle/function well and will work with a mag well and the Kimber kit?

    Thanks!

(notice the gap in the first pic, and how you cannot trim the baseplate in the second pic)

just bought 2 ace conversion .22 mags from the above...very nice and stamped with Colt .22 LR on the base. They are solid and will solve your issue. Just converted my SA TRP 1911 and did not like the poly mag.

    good luck

What kit are you using them with?

NP...should work in any 1911 clone (.22 conversion..but double check) and these mags will not hold open the slide on the last round...so, won't void conversion warranty.

The last round hold open doesnt bother me.. as long as they work!

I have the same Kimber conversion as the OP, and was able to trim the mags to lock into both of my magwell-equipped 1911's. I took a file and trimmed the top edge of the baseplate where it was impacting the "funnel" of the magwell. Took less than 5 min per mag (I have 5 of them) once I figured out the right spot. Mags lock in and feed flawlessly.

I wouldn't use Ace mags for the Kimber conversion. The cartridge position and the ramp is different with the Colt/Marvel then with the Ciener/Kimber .22lr's. I've tried using Ace mags on my Kimber and the ammo just wouldn't feed correctly. I would love to use Ace mags on my Kimber since it's easier to load & it's all steel but I just can't get it to work. Kind of a same issue using Kimber mags on my Ace conversion. Maybe it's just me??

Here's an earlier post on Kimber mags.

Does Kimber make\offer a steel magazine? If so, just need to find out what brand and then see if they can be found (aftermarket).

I actually contacted Marvel before I bought the Ace, just to get confirmation they would work. A Kimber is a 1911 clone, but the conversion may have a different angle on the feed ramp?

Dremmel would work nice for removing material. (prob a little easier too). Save some $$$ this route!

Kimber told me to use the ciener mags. I called them this morning.
