        Conversion slide FTW, cash and carry;

why pay DROS (tribute) to the state when simply adding a .22lr slide works?

Ruger Mk.III or IV 22/45. Grip is designed to mimic the 1911.

I have a Mk III 22-45 and an S&W M&P 22, both have controls same as the 1911 and lock open.
My Kimber kit won't lock open but I like it because it's closest to actually shooting my Gold Cup.
I also have a Beretta kit for my 92FS and a Walther P-22, all will work fine just for shooting practice.

                Before pandemic.
When I look for a 1911 .22LR conversion, the whole GSG 1911-22 pistol was cost less than any 1911 .22LR conversion on the market.
Now, the GSG 1911-22 is hard to find and the price is "supply &demand's price" so the .22LR conversion is more attractive.
If you can find the GSG1911-22 same price of the conversion then go for it (two guns is better than one, isn't it).

Nelson / Bob Marvel fixed-barrel conversion. As accurate as a Model 41. You can't blame the kit when you miss:

Conversion Unit - Standard Barrel / Last round lockback / Dryfire safe / Steel rail with adjustable sights with your choice of front sight and rear sights / 2 Magazines of your choice included

My GSG was a jamamatic. I sold it and never regretted it. My Browning 1911-22 is a great little gun and it work very well.

I have an old Colt conversion kit (w/ the floating chamber), and although it has the same controls as the full size, the recoil is just .22.

To get better at shooting .45, you have to shoot a lot of .45 to eliminate the flinch.

Either invest in a lot of ammo, or a reloading kit and practice more.

My GSG has been excellent from the beginning. Accurate and reliable. And fun. So much fun that my son bought his own.

I find it hilarious that some guys see a $229 gun (what I paid for mine) and complain that it is not built to the same standards as a $1000 Kimber (what I paid for mine).

If there is a secret to the GSG it is this: 22 ammo is much dirtier as we all know. I keep mine lubed very well. I don't clean it as often as I should but I do keep it lubed.

I have several 1911's including Kimbers and I keep them all lubed well.

I have conversion kits for some of my 1911's like a 9mm barrel for my 38 super and a 22 lr kit for my Colt but, for the money I paid for it, the GSG is a winner.

                              YMMV

I am currently shooting 2700 Bullseye Pistol. On the average, the "best" shooters are using a 22lr conversion on top of a 1911 frame, the Marvel Unit is very common. The basic reason is, these shooters want to maintain the same grip/trigger ergonomics through out the match. They will shoot a Marvel conversion for the 90 round 22lr stage, and then use a 45 ACP 1911 for the 90 round centerfire stage, and the 90 round 45 stage.

These are well made, probably go for hundreds of thousands of rounds. It is always smart to buy more magazines than you could ever think you need, because once the maker quits, magazines become hard to find.

If you have an extra 1911 frame, this is the way to go.
