Peep sight for marlin 39-a

I am looking to put a peep sight on an older Marlin 39-a. I believe it was made in 1946. Skinner sight will not fit, as there is only 1 screw hole in the top of the receiver. Any recommendations as to what sight will work?

Is the receiver drilled and tapped with two holes on the rear left side. Then a Lyman 66MC or Williams receiver sight would work. Is your tang drilled and tapped for a Lyman or Marbles tang mounted sight? Would be two tiny screw fillers in the tang for the stock. Maybe post a pic or two. I like to see the older Marlins anyway.

don't put a Skinner on a Marlin that old - something that old deserves a Redfield receiver sight or maybe a Lyman tang... I have a Redfield on one of mine and a Lyman receiver sight on the other.

the side of the receiver "should" already be tapped for it as they are designed to use existing holes.

Forget the Skinner for sure. DO NOT drill the receiver for the Skinner. Bubba did that to a nice 1955 Marlin "Sears" Mountie I own. The idiot could not even drill the holes in line. Spacing was OK, but the two holes were not in line.

Marbles (maybe Lyman) sells "no drill/tap" tang sights for Marlin lever actions. They use a base held in place with an elongated stock screw though the tang, the sight base is then secured to that base with two screws. It works fine, stays in place well secured. The problem is that when the gun recoils the web of your hand, if behind the base, gets hacked up pretty good. Holding in front of the base is awkward.

Being a 22 with pretty much no recoil, holding with thumb behind shouldn't be a problem.

I have the same set up on my Centennial. No need for a scope when using these irons. So long as one's eyes are up to it. And looks, handles so much better.
