I took my son to his first rimfire match last weekend and he can not stop talking about it. He did great with pistol but we had issues with rifle. Four of his five rifle mags arrived a few days before the match, long bodied 10/25. We had no chance to try them before needing them to run. He had a blast and learned a lot about clearing malfunctions. People we were squadded with were awesome, very helpful and ready to lend a hand. RO Terri walked him through a lot about how to run a rifle and clear malfunctions, hats off. Thanks to all the people we were squadded with, great bunch. Pretty sure he is hooked.
First stage, able to get one or two rounds out before malfunction, clear, run another couple and jam again. Process went on like this through all of new mags, one original mag that came with rifle ran ok. Two guys from squad jumped in, both offering ammo to try. We tried the Remington Gold on stage one. Stage two tried Eley standard that I brought and some borrowed Aquila high velocity but still issues. Stage three more borrowed Aquila and some Federal HV. Stoppages were so bad, DNF last three strings. Stage four is where we were able to borrow another squad mates magazines, short bodied 10 round mags, rifle ran way better. Still had a few jams but he was able to see what it felt like to run at least three strings clean. Big thanks for letting us try your mags.
Got home and cleaned rifle, ok, couple of days later. Looks fine, not seeing any clearing issues. Took mags apart to see what i could see, nothing. Plastic body factory mags have pin in place to limit to ten rounds, maybe causing issue with springs not rebounding completely? Maybe just need to run mags through gun at practice or static line to get to run smoothly? Any M&P 15-22 shooters have suggestions. Usually factory mags run pretty good out of the box, not so with these ones
