    Experiences with Norma TAC-22

    Anybody try Norma TAC 22?

I got 2 cases (due to limited supply). Zeroed the red dot on my 10/22 takedown (18.5" barrel) with CCI Mini mag at 25 yds. As expected it was pretty much spot on at 50 yds as well, the same was true when using Aguila Super Extra - both are the same 40gr with similar velocity 1200+.

I also tried some Norma TAC 22 40gr, and expected a little drop at 50 yds due to the claims 1100 fps velocity. I however observed about a 4" drop at 50 yds, and was very surprised to see that. It was very accurate and spot on at 25 yds with the zero form the CCI. It cycled and ran fine in the 10/22, but these are very oily and you literally have to wipe your hands after loading a mag.

Didn't test any ammo at 100yds, but with a 4" drop at 50 I will have to aim vertical to hit anything at 100.

I may just put these in a case for the Buck Mark I'm picking up next week, hopefully they will be fine in the 5.5" barrel for up to 20-25 yds. But with that big drop at 50 yds, can't use them in the rifle unless it is 25 yds only.

I shot Rifleman scores 7 times in a row with Norma TAC 22s at an Appleseed in Sacramento a few years ago. They are greasy, but they are great. I've never had a problem with a single round. I use Kidd guide rods in my 10/22s, and I use the Kidd 10% lighter recoil spring with the TAC 22s. They actually sound like subsonic rounds when you shoot them.

Since you have a lot of them (2 cases = 10,000 rounds), I would just zero your red dot (or scope, or Tech Sights) for the TAC 22s at 50 yards if you don't want a holdover at that distance. Then have fun and get ready to impress people with your tight groupings.

They are very greasy and in my Buckmark I need to clean it after every 1-2 Steel Challenge stages. Out of a Savage Mk II heavy barrel its pretty consistent

While not my favorite 22 ammo, I continue to shoot it

During the ammo drought after Sandy Hook, Norma Tac was one of of the few brands I could consistently buy. I also regularly found Eley Target. I did have to spend about $50 to $60 a brick for either but I was just returning to shooting have a few decades and was shooting with my son.

We found both to be great at 100 yards using our custom built 10/22s. I purposely wanted sub-sonic ammo for that.

Yes, it is greasy and we brought a few rags to wipe our hands down after loading mags. It required more frequent cleaning, but we both could shoot a brick each before we had to clean the rifles. Many times that was a day at the range so it worked out. It helped to go light on the lube after cleaning.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

Sorry meant 2 boxes = 1000 rounds. They were very consistent, but I didn't like the drop. I'm definitely the weak point in terms of target shooting and will mostly use the 10/22 with red dot for plinking and was hoping to get a nice flat trajectory till 50 yds, which the other ammo does give me.

All that said I found the rated velocity to be well below par if it drops that much at 50 yds though.

Just adjust the sight so it hits where you want it to. Any change of ammo will require that, why would this be different?

They aren't greasy. You guys just ain't use to using good European ammo. Instead of comparing them with CCI mini's, compare them with CCI sv's.

It might just be your barrel. Every barrel is different and will have ammo it likes and ammo it dislikes. Your accuracy was 4" low. How was the precision?

I wouldn't put as much faith into thinking it was excessive drop. Your barrel could have very well thrown them 4" high and left. It just turns out your barrel throws them perfectly 4" low.

4" at 50 yards is a bit extreme, but not unheard of.

If it turns out that Norma groups better than all of the other ammo you tried, stick with the Norma and adjust the elevation of your rear sight accordingly.

Accuracy was fine with the TAC 22, but so was the Aguila and CCI. It was just strange that the TAC dropped so much compared to the others.
It is a new 10/22 takedown.

My model 54 Annie has some pretty spectacularly different points of impact with different ammo. At 50 yards, 4" isn't unheard of. If if it groups well. Adjust your sights and carry on!

Tested it today with my new Buck Mark. No noticeable difference in drop at pistol range up to 50 ft compared to the Aguila or Federal Range 40gr. I did notice significantly less recoil than the Aguila or Federal (not that a 22 has much in a Buck Mark).

I cleaned and lubed the Buck Mark before going to the range. Had one round of Aguila on the second mag that had one round not pushing into the chamber, but rather almost straight up. Cleared and reloaded, ran fine with it. Had 4 side stove pipes with the TAC 22, and 4 round that stuck to the chamber after it fired, had to pull the rounds with a small allen key as they were so stuck. Also 2 light strikes that didn't fire. That was on a 100 rounds of the TAC 22. Although I should note that after the first 50 or so rounds the Buck Mark started to run better, though the stuck in chamber rounds is a concern.

Had zero issues with the Federal, but only started to use it after the first 60 or so rounds.

May just be that the Buck Mark is brand new, and started to run better after 100 or so rounds, but so far not very happy with the TAC 22s. Seems like they may have misbranded these and they should be subsonic or some very weak load.

Most of my Norma experience, is with EARLY 10mm loads. Norma ammo IS some of the best in the world, for a commercial loading of centerfire rounds.

Was it marketed AS "handgun ammo," perchance. Sounds like it was designed for those distances.

Didn't see anything to state handgun on the boxes. It is rated at 1100 fps, but I have my doubts. Will probably just use it for the Buck Mark going forward. Got the Buck Mark primarily for my wife to ease her into things a bit, this soft shooting load will be good for that. AS long as we don't have more issues.

Well I can definitive say the Norma TAC 22 boxes I got are no good. My Buck Mark keep having FTE with them and the casing gets stuck in the barrel. It doesn't have the issues with any of the other 22 ammo I have used on it. May just use it on the 10/22 for 25 yds or so, and hopefully I will get a bolt action 22 sometime this year, which it will work with (hopefully).
