    10/22 doesn't cycle Federal bulk

I have a bunch of Federal bulk from walmart, but my 10/22 stovepipes on it every 5-10 rounds. I can't make it through a mag without a stovepipe. Anything I can do? It's 100% perfect on Aguila SuperExtra. Those are the only two I have right now, but much more of the Federal, so I'd like to be able to use it.

    Did you try another magazine?

I have 6 Ruger 10rd magazines. They all do the same thing.

        Buy a bolt action .22...

I have a couple for when I run into ammo that my other .22's just don't eat reliably, the kids love to shoot 'em.

Just had a couple 10/22's out to the range with Winchester ammo I had sitting around... all sorts of issues on 2 of them, a third ate everything fine, it's random!

          How old/new is the 10/22?
My takedown is brand new, cleaned and lubed it after getting it home. Had a few ftf on the 2nd to 4th mag running Aguila super extra and some Tac22 low velocity. After about 4 mags it ran fine with both ammo for the rest of the session around 200 rounds total.

May be a lube or cleaning issue if new. On older guns guys get an aftermarket extractor as the factory ones seem to wear down.

clean it, clean the magazines... maybe change the recoil spring without physically getting into the gun I really can't think of anything else you could do

Some ammo is not full power

Low end or below saami specs.

A clean gun helps a lot
              A little extra lube helps

              It’s probably cheap Ammo.

Check the common things - feed ramp and chamber.
              Extractor

But sounds like a weak batch of Ammo.

Have a Ruger 10/22 stainless takedown. Issues with Federal bulk ammo. FTF and stove pipes. I'm looking for a .22lr pistol or bolt-action rifle for those rounds of ammo the Ruger doesn't like.

Best ammo is CCI Mini-Mags. Runs good on the Winchester M-22 AR and Remington Golden Bullets.

I've had it cleaned by gunsmith, I've oiled and lubed. Different mags, black, clear, Ruger OEM and off-brand.

Wouldn't stake my life on getting through a 10-shot mag without a failure.
Sometimes a gun is just a gun.

That's really weird. I've seen plenty of 10/22's, all running the Federal 550-bulk-pack ammo from Walmart through 'em without any problems. Same with Winchester 555-packs, same with even the (not quite as well made, but functional) Remington Golden Bullet 525-pack.

It may be time to clean that gun.

Put a volquartsen extractor in. The stock one is crap, it doesnt extract the empty case reliabaly and so it doesn't clear the bolt giving you a stovepipe.

I'll try the extractor. Gun is clean and well lubed. It's also well broken in, not new. Mags are clean and working well too. I know it works better with higher power ammo, but i'd like to get it working with cheap ammo too.

Then get a volquartsen charging handle, mag release, trigger...rabbit hole time!

Ditto - I get no more stovepipe jams ever since installing the VQ extractor.

Hornady One Shot Dry Lube and Cleaner good lube for rimfire. Scrub the inside of receiver with a green pad. Kidd guide rod and springs will make the action smoother. Aftermarket extractor cheep easy swap. I always advise people to change one or two parts at a time (10/22) until you can reassemble your original rifle.

Is it stovepiping every time or does it just leave the empty case in the receiver?

The extracter is a known issue in 10/22s.

Ammo that has a bit more pop can eject even with a bad extracter.

                              Federal bulk is crap IMHO.
