If you like it, just buy it for the coolness factor. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Its your money.

      I'd gladly sell you one.

I bought one from the marketplace years ago simply because it was cheap - to this day I still have never shot it - the guy I bought it from used to carry it, hunt with it, backpack with it & put food over his campfire with it... he claimed to be selling it because he replaced it with a 10/22 takedown.

while I still think it is a cool little gun functionally I would rather have a 10/22 takedown myself

I spent $40 on a new one because it was small enough for our daughter to use when she was 6. She's now 48 and still has it. She's also still in high school but that's a different story - - - she's the principal.

I have the Henry version with the carry case used to be our motorhome fun gun.

The Henry AR7 is an interesting gun, but has major ergonomic short comings.
Unless the compact storage size is important to you, you will be disappointed due to the fat handgrip and finger slapping trigger.
My Henry version has been very reliable.

Do you have a place that you would want to stow a .22 but have limited space?

Just for coolness factor, doesn’t do anything that a Papoose or 10/22 takedown would do.

A friend of mine had one. We could hardly get it to work with a bunch of different ammo. It would barely dent the rim. Failure rate was > 50%.

Plus the crappy ergonomics. Better off with a pistol.

If it is an original Armalite production gun, yes.
                        Otherwise don't bother.

With the Ruger 10/22 Takedown model now on the market it is the better choice for many reasons, even if you have to pay more for it, but I believe the one cool factor that some/most of the AR7 models made by some of the manufacturers who made it is that it floats if the receiver and barrel are properly stored in the somewhat large stock.

So if your boat tragically sinks...

You've got that going for you.

Ruger Take-down over the AR-7 anytime.
