Heritage Rough Rider 9rnd 22lr

I searched the CA gun roster website and cannot find Heritage. I’m interested in getting a 9 shot but don’t know if they are on the roster or not. Can anyone shed light on this? Possibly provide a link to one for sale and CA compliant?

EDIT: dumb question, I found out that single shot guns don’t require the roster requirements. That said, any suggestion on what Heritage Rough Rider to get? Or is there a better similar gun? I’d prefer to open the cylinder and load all rounds at once, but I think that requires 2-3X the price in a 627 or similar Smith?

Back in the normal days, they were commonly available, and sometimes even on sale in 22lr and 22wmr. Post apocalyptic virus, they likely will return eventually. They are single action only, so if I understand correctly, don't have to be "on roster".

I've got a regular ~6" barrel and the 16" version, with 22lr and 22mag cylinders.

They're great fun, and very low cost, and for the cost, are worth it. But they're not very "nice". I take the 16" out all the time, as it makes me laugh just thinking about shooting it.

Here is the Single Action Handgun Exemption:

The single-action revolver exemption is Penal Code 32100(a).

Penal Code 32100 (a) Article 4 (commencing with Section 31900) and Article 5 (commencing with Section 32000) shall not apply to a single-action revolver that has at least a five-cartridge capacity with a barrel length of not less than three inches, and meets any of the following specifications: (1) Was originally manufactured prior to 1900 and is a curio or relic, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations. (2) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least seven and one-half inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled. (3) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at least seven and one-half inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled and that is currently approved for importation into the United States pursuant to the provisions of paragraph (3) of subsection (d) of Section 925 of Title 18 of the United States Code.

Take a look at the Ruger New Model Single Six Convertible. I have one with a 6-1/2" barrel that's a tack driver. Yes, more pricey than the Heritage, but a fine SA. They pop up on CG market place from time to time.

from my experience, all the sao single action only are gate loaded with single ejection.. they also generally have quick release cylinders that are removable without tools..

only revolvers I'm aware of that swing out are double action.. they typically feature multiple ejection and cylinders require tools for removal..

just my experience, not sure if that's consistent across the board..

I'll throw this out there if you're just looking for 9 shot .22 revolvers.. lots of older (+50yo) that are c&r roster exempt that are fun.. top breaks or simply older model double action 50yo

Or if you can find 'em, Hi Standard had some SA/DA 9 rounders with interchangeable cylinders, 22LR and 22WMR... swing out cylinders with built in ejection to empty the cylinder with one push. Oldies but fun shooters if you can find one in good condition.

i have a nine and six shot heritage roughrider, ruger single six and ruger wrangler. if i had no intention of using a single action revolver for hunting or protection, i would skip the 22wmr cylinder option and just get the 22lr-only ruger wrangler. the wrangler is the best value for the money.

We just picked up a 4.5" 6 shot at Sportsman's for $129 yesterday. Girlfriend wanted it so she bought it. My wife does not like the safety on them but her girlfriend really likes the feature.....to each their own. I played with the Heritage and the Wrangler and the Heritage was much smoother to operate. I'm told the Wrangler needs time to break in.

This gun won't see 100 rounds in the next ten years so she is happy with it.

Killer Bee— Great advice, thank you. I think it would be a lot more fun to own something with a lot of character. Especially a sa revolver. I looked into some older ones but they were all ugly. The pretty ones seem to closer to $1000. I’ll have to keep looking.

DB —. I’ll keep an eye out. I’ve been frequenting some online auctions that seem to have just about everything older, but can range in price. Especially right now.

Jstert— Ya i was thinking the same thing. More is always better, or at least it seems that when when purchasing. The Price of 22WMR is so stupid right now, and unless I’m using a 7.5” barrel, it isn’t going to be all that different.
