    Remington 40XB

I recently told a story on myself of having two Winchester 52's in my safe for 7 years without ever sending a round downrange with either. Well, full truth be known...I also have a Remington 40 XB that I've had for 6 years that I have also never fired. I was happy with shooting the 52's, so I decided to get my 40XB ready for action also.

I have a B&L 36X scope which was not being used and bought the mounting hardware.

I don't have any range report yet, but here is the rifle...

            Heck

I even had Karl Kenyon work on a couple Win 52 triggers, never shot those either.

The metal is in great shape and the stock is solid, but pretty beat up (it's a former US property rifle), but I have a replacement in much better shape...

I removed the bolt and noticed that it is EP'd with the correct serial number.

Mine are CMP guns too and a blast to shoot. I have a discontinued Vortex Crossfire 6-24x50 that sold at SWFA for $99 way back when.....wish I had gotten more of them.....rifles and scope. I have been taking mine to blast all the small pieces of broken clays on the berm. With the 24x scope u can spot shotgun wads or the occasional golf ball on the berm and make them dance too.

Been tempted to send it out for a magazine feed conversion. About $600 to have it done. That or spend a little more and get the Bergara B14R. Practicing bolt gun rapid fire with 10 shots sounds like fun.

                      Who does the conversion?

The one I received had vise marks on the stock by the ejection port/receiver. It has so many dings aqnd dents that it looked like it had been dragged behind a vehicle on a gravel road. I steamed and sanded and refinished the stock with tung oil and it looks great now. It shoots very well too, with Eley Match ammo at the 1058 FPS level or close to it. I also have a Harrell tuner on it with a Jewell trigger at 8 oz.

I have a stock from Gun Parts Inc and it wasnt too expensive back when I bought it. Its a really nice one that I steamed up some and put a lot of coats of tung oil on. Never installed it on my rifle as the one I shoot most has an adjustable oal stock that while looks worse, comes in handy for the smaller framed shooters like kids.
