Help With Savage Model 65A

I was left a Savage Model 65A from my grandfather and was looking for help on finding info about it. Specifically what the "A" is for? When searching online Model 65A doesn't result in much for me, while a 65 does show a couple of results.

Was curious if there are any websites out there that I don't know of that may help me with this. I'm a basic noobie with this kind of thing so I apologize if I'm missing the obvious.

I also have no paperwork on the gun and was curious if it was worth trying to get it in the state legally. I don't want this one being taken away for any reason (obviously). Not sure if I'd shoot it, but I'd like to have it here with me. Any recommendations on that?

you may not find a serial number on your gun I have a few like that its not a problem on older 22s

I hope you can get it into Ca easily. Once you get it, have a smith or a person familiar with your rifle check it out for safety reasons and then go shoot it!

Since your grandfather gave it to you many years ago you should have no problems.
Your not required to let anybody know you have it.

Savage denoted A,B,C, etc for varying magazine feeding models. E.g. detachable mag, tube fed, etc. I have two of the same semi-auto action rifles that share the same model number but are C and D because one is det. mag, and the other tube fed. There are also Stevens brand rifles that are basically the same.
