Ruger 10/22 Takedown with red dot accuracy

I'm interesting in getting a 10/22 takedown in the future (once the craziness settles a bit). Was thinking about getting a good red dot sight for it as well to make plinking a bit more fun.

The question now is how accurate will it be every time you reassemble it, since the sight is on the chamber and not the barrel. Seems to state in the manual that you need to slingshot the action a few times every time you reassemble to improve accuracy. Made we wonder how true the sight would stay???

For my purposes 50 yard accuracy would be fine it is stays around 2" once zeroed.

Anybody using a 10/22 with red dot or scope?

There is also an aftermarket optic mount that will put the RD on the barrel iirc.

I have a Sig Romeo on my takedown ( Magpul hunter stock) . I zeroed it in at 55 yards. Hasn’t lost zero . Blue loctite the screws ... mine came loose after a few thousand rounds. Other than that , it s been fine. It’s easy to adjust and is around $125 but I got it for less on sale. There are caps you pop off to click for height and windage. I didn’t want to spend more on a red dot than I did for the rifle.

Thx, good to hear it didn't loose it's zero. I hear you on the price of some of the sights, was looking and some of the prices were eye-watering for my purpose.

Accuracy should improve when the barrel lockup is adjusted to be tight.
The barrel lockup is adjustable and should be adjusted to be as tight as you are comfortable with.
Tighter lockup makes it harder to remove and install the barrel, but you gain accuracy.

Magpul has a fore end mount that I think is designed for use with their backpacker stock, if that's what you have....

Since it looks like you may have the typical "stock" setup, the main thing is to get the lockup dialed in - you can usually do it pretty quickly, but it's easy to adjust if you need to. The barrel should be snug when adjusted correctly.

I found you back the knurled ring off a bit (unless it's already loose), then tighten one click at a time (installing the barrel after each adjustment) until it's snug, at some point it will be "too" tight to attach easily if you over adjust the knurled ring.

I tested with a bore laser and a RD to confirm that the sighting in was holding. If you have a few guns, a bore laser comes in mighty handy!

I used a short cheap UTG Bugbuster scope on the Ruger 10/22 TD, it fit the Ruger bag perfectly, it hold zero after take down then put it back.
I think at 50 yards the zero accuracy depends on ammo more than zero of scope/RD, but as you said 2" at 50 yards I think you will be OK , if you can find a 2 MOA RD it will be better than 6 MOA RD.

BTW, will some Aces verify how big for a standard 3MOA dot at 50 yards, will it cover the whole 6" target plate ??????
