    Ruger 10/22 Magnum?

Is there a rifle out there like the Ruger 10/22 but chambered in 22 magnum?
I love my 10/22 takedown and would love to have someone just like it chambered in .22 Mag.

    -10 round flush mag
    -breaks down
-decent aftermarket parts, mods, etc... would be a plus

Not that I’ve seen - the 10/22M was discontinued some time ago.
There is the Savage 22A Magnum with a flush fit 10 round magazine.
Rossi has a .22 WMR autoloader, but it looks like it uses a big curved mag.
Some of the small batch companies like Volquartzen do have .22 WMR semi autos, but not much out there on that.

Savage really needs to work on a “tactical/AR compatible” version of their rifle.

Non breakdown versions existed IIRC as well as aftermarket takedown conversion kits. Be prepared to pay a lot though!

Magnum research evidently makes a version that uses a lot of the Ruger components as well. Maybe an aftermarket takedown kit may be compatible?

Valquartsen makes one if you want to burn some money. If you want to build your own there are 80% receivers out there and the components to build one up

click on the link. Volquartsen has a really a really great .22 mag. Very similar to the original Ruger, only much better quality.

To me it looks like the Savage Is the way to go if I could get it converted to be a take down. Would that be possible? Any reputable companies/gunsmiths that offer a take-down conversion service?

I have enough projects right now so the 80% route doesn’t sound too appealing.

Also, apologies for putting this in the center fire forum. Meant to put it in the rum fire forum. Mods, could you help me in moving this?

I've got one built around the Razor 80%, fun project IF you have already built some 80% 10/22's, otherwise not a good DIY, IMO. Mine runs flawless, but I've read of more "fails" than successes on rimfire.com.

There is enough difference between the 10/22 Magnum and standard 10/22 that you'd have a lot of headaches trying to "convert" to a TD format. Even if you used the Ruger TD mech, you'd still need to have someone machine a 22wmr barrel to match...

That said, it's a "fun" round to shoot, with more "oomph" than a .22LR platform. That extra "oomph" seems to present some major design challenges for semi-auto guns. I'm guessing there is a limited market - not too many people know what a ".22wmr" is, although Wally world always seems to have it in stock locally...

Someone posted about a Rossi 22wmr, I've been tempted to try to find one, as the price seems to be fairly reasonable.

Nobody seems to get a 22magnum to run very reliably from blowback semi-autos like a 10/22.
When they do, it's usually restricted to a specific ammo type.
Ruger tried, then quit making them after too many complaints from customers.
Others have also tried and quit.

Until someone figures out how to properly delay the blowback, 22mag is going to be more common in manually operated actions.

I did quite a bit of research on the Ruger Magnum - there were a couple fatal design flaws I read about - the early design had dual extractors, and the one opposite the ejection port would get loose and destroy the expensive titanium bolt. I couldn't sort out whether that was the only issue with cracked bolts, or whether some just were failing. It did seem that anyone who had a single extractor or removed the second one didn't have any problems, and still had functional rifles. I gather the bolt failures were expensive enough to result in the concept being ultimately scrapped.

When doing the Razor build (which my research suggested would be a rather miserable failure...), I was careful to consider the blowback delay. I used an old Magnum trigger group - the hammer spring took considerably more force to push back the hammer than any other 10/22 trigger group I've seen. The Razor design uses a different recoil spring design for the bolt as well, and it can be "tuned" to control the delay. I ran CCI, Hornady, and Aguila through it - the first two are flawless, the Aguila just didn't like to feed, and I didn't care enough to try to sort that out.

I also picked up an Excel Accelerator (yeah, looks like a space gun, I thought it looked cool...). They do specify you not run any of the handgun wmr loads (probably not enough powder to guarantee the bullet makes it out of the barrel!), but it runs all three of the above rounds flawlessly after I cleaned up the ramp, throat, and chamber a bit.

Both of these guns run quite well, and are fun to shoot, so it's possible to get the mechanics worked out, and like many guns, it might be necessary to use ammo that they "like".

I don't know that I'd recommend it if you don't have patience, some shop chops, and tools... For me it was an interesting challenge, and it took some work to get things working smoothly for both rifles, but I think it was well worth it!

I have a CZ 512 semi auto in 22 magnum. It's an excellent gun. I have the wood stock version but it also comes in tactical. Not a take down rifle, though. The CZ 512 is accurate. Very few failures - I occasionally get a failure to eject using Armscor ammo. Very few if any failures with Hornady ammo. You can't mod it like a Ruger 10/22 but I was able to find a rail for it and I have a red dot mounted. The 22 magnum is supposedly popular with poachers because you can kill anything from squirrels to deer with it. The CZ 512 is my "survival" rifle.

Was just at a Turners. They were out of everything except for one $3500 SA FBI 1911, a few cowboy guns, winchester wildcat 22 and a excel 22 mag rifle.

If somebody was selling a 1022 Magnum I would step up and buy it. If the price was right.
