    Ar-7 upgrades help

    Howdie howdie,

Story time TLDR so skip down to questions:

My father mentioned to me in passing that he saw a charter arms explorer exactly like his first rifle he mother bought him in the early 70's at a pawn shop he was at and I decided to pick it up. unfortunately it was 3 days after the riots happened in la Mesa causing everything in the shop to have a premium tacked on to it. Out the door with tax, DROS, and a panick buyers premium for $300.

    Questions
    :
I'm looking for any upgrades to bring the rifle into the modern age so he can be the coolest fudd on the range. I've seen haga designs ar15 stock adapters for it as well as the pistol conversations but is there any other guy that actually have an ar-15 stock adapter in stock or anyone I can contact to get a receiver adapter to accept an ar-15 buffer tube stock assembly?

To each his own and there were aftermarket stuff for the AR7 back in the day too. But I kinda always missed the point of modifying a AR7 into a conventional rifle. It is supposed to be the way it is. That is how Eugene Stoner intended it.

Look up a conversion the Israelis did back in the 70s. There was a company in the 70s too that made aftermarket stuff for them, stocks and hand guards. Cannot recall the name now. But that stuff is getting pricey now for the original setups. Mine will just remain as made. But go ahead and customize away if that is what you want.

I agree, but Armalite itself made a conventional rifle out of its unique survival firearm. It called the altered model the AR-7 Custom.

Yes, this is factory issue, though it looks somewhat like a backyard Bubba conversion. There are (understandably!) very few of this model in existence now (just try to Google it up!).

Related question, so I will ask ti here since it is about an upgrade. Will a Henry AR-7 buttstock fit a Charter arms AR-7? When I called Henry they didn't know. I want the ability to carry extra mags in the buttstock. Henry carries 3, and is a bit fatter because of that.

I never had one but I read that the Henry receiver would not fit in the Charter Arms stock because it is larger. It might go the other way though.

There really aren't "upgrades" for it. There are plenty of aftermarket crap that I consider "downgrades". Most of the downgrades take away the advantages of this rifle. It is designed to be a self contained, floating, compacted, break down survival rifle. If you want to add a bunch of crap to it to make it bulky, heavy and unable to be water tight when broken down, that's up to you but, don't consider them "upgrades".

In the days before shtf, playing with it in a different configuration can be fun. It's modular so take it apart and pack it back in the stock when the time comes.

Kinda like dressing up GI Joe in his astronaut gear and playing spaceman but goin back to his cammies when there's work to be done.

Unless you have just cut yourself out of your wrecked jet with an Air Force survival knife.

And have to kill your new friend, Mr. Fluffy, to survive until the sun comes up again, there is no reason to own an AR7.

I have an original AR-7 from Costa Mesa California. Worth anything?
