I started a thread on the P22. I know it gets heat here on calguns, but I love mine. I picked it up about 3 or 4 years ago, and I've run well over a thousand rounds through it without 1 jam/problem. About a year ago I put the captive spring thing in, just because it makes it easier to clean. When I first got it I took it out and put about 300 rounds of mini mag through it. Took it home cleaned it up, and it'll run damn near any hv ammo, bulk box stuff no problem. That's my experience.

How does the slide stop feel with a mag in ?
If your not happy I would send it back to Browning.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

        Ruger Mk. I & Mk.II

I have a Mk.III, which is NOT as reliable (crummy design - especially to take down and clean) - can't comment on the Mk.IV

        Browning Buckmark

There may be others as well - THOSE I can speak to.

Thats quite a span in size and weight between a P22 and Mark iv Hunter. Why not a revolver ? I have a nice S&W 617 6" and the only failure is a dud round now and then if shooting cheap bulk pack ammo.

My Buckmark is stellar. I only have 1200 rounds through it . How many rounds did you go through before you sent it in to Browning? What was the issue?

Can't speak to the Buckmark - sounds like a spring missing offhand, but I've got no idea how they are constructed, just spitballin' from other firearms I've worked on.

If you want a semi-auto, Ruger SR22P - it's off roster, so they bring a premium if you can find one for sale used, but have been more reliable than the P22, which wasn't "bad", but seemed to have more malfunction drill practice than I prefer to have... There seem to be variations from gun to gun with the P22, so you may or may not have better luck - I had a couple, but the SR22 replaced 'em. Maybe you can get your dad to get one and gift it to ya?! They are pretty easy to get in free states...

El cheapo Phoenix Arms HP22A if you don't mind shooting standard velocity ammo per the factory manual. Again, some people love 'em, some hate 'em. I've had good luck and for the low dough, hard to beat. Fun to plink with, once you mod the safeties to a more "normal" configuration

Have both the Buckmark and P22. P22 works great if your hands fit it. Accuracy goes to Buckmark though as it is more of a target pistol. Another thing is that it'll pretty much eat any ammo out there. My P22 has FTE with Aquila, Thunderbolts, and Winchester 555. Only thing that runs 98% of the time is Goldenbuckets.

Essentially, find the gun that fits your grip and style the best and find a reliable brand of ammo to use. You'll have fun regardless

I have S&W 617, 34, 63 & 43. All are 22lr and very reliable and fast. Any of these revolvers will last forever and can be handed down many generations in your family.

They are all super fast to shoot when a SpeedBeez style speed loader and ammo block is used. I have a 24 load ammo block (240 rds) for the 10 shot 617 and the gun feels like it is glowing after burning through all the ammo. I have an 8 load ammo block (64 rds) for the 8 shot 63 or 43. Loading one ammo block is much easier on the fingers than loading 24 or 8 mags.

These S&Ws eat all ammo EXCEPT Winchester products. Something about the case head swells after firing and causes the cylinder to stop turning. This is not caused by debris under the extractor. It is the case heads expanding.

If you don't care about fast at the other end is the Ruger Single Six or Ten. Very reliable.

I also love Ruger MkIIs, Buckmarks, Diamondbacks, S&W 41s for reliability too.
Not a fan of plastic or pot metal. Had a Walther P22 with a wobbly plastic rear sight. Not replaceable. Got rid of the gun.

There are more great 22s out there but these are the ones I own or have owned.

.22s are tough, its a super dirty round, even the good stuff.

I have a 22/45 that is dependable, a Colt Woodsman from the 1950s that is a swiss watch but sometimes doubles, and a .22 conversion based on Bob Mavels design that is perfect.

I have a Kimber Rimfire Target 1911 that runs great when kept clean and oiled.

Browning 1911-22 is a reliable little .22 as well.

I just acquired a Kadet 22Lr adapter for my CZ SP-O1 and I’m loving it.
I broke it in with an old stock (guestimated 10+years old ) Remington
And run flawlessly with No hiccups. I was impressed. IT ate all the “better” rounds I fed after that. You might wanna try that rout if you have CZ’s or other conventions. A plus if you want to train with your side arm with cheaper rounds.
