I know that the P22 has a bad rep here on Calguns. I've read all the posts, but I've got a different take. I really enjoy rimfire handguns, and if one is on roster I'll typically pick it up regardless. A few years back, I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket, man it was on fire. So I stopped by my LGS, and they had one in stock, price was good. So I bought it, fully aware of the horror stories. I went out and shot about 500 rounds of cci minimag, not one problem. Hadn't even cleaned it yet. Took it home, cleaned it real good, put in the captive spring thing, and have enjoyed it thoroughly for the past 3 or 4 years. I just had it out this morning, just plinking around, went though about 200 minimags, and another 100 or so federal blue box bulk. Once again, not a single problem. Just a real fun little plinker. I've heard a bunch of people really hate this little gun. Has anyone had as good an experience as I have? Or am I the outlier?

I have one of the older ones that eat the slide on account of the sharp edges left on the trigger dis-connector that chew on the Zamak slide with each cycle. I fixed that along with other issues that have been pointed out and addressed by the P-22 Bible, put together by a member over at Rim Fire Central. It never was unreliable, but is definitely enhanced by applying a few fixes. Here is a link to the PDF of the Bible:
