your top 5 scopes

I was recently given a Rem 597 , 16in bull barrel . Thinking about using it for small game. There's so many scopes to chose from for the .22 I figured I'd ask your opinion. Asking for your top 5 rimfire scopes. Like to keep the price under 300.

Had too many rimfire scopes fall apart. Get a nice 4x with hefty objective and be done with it.

I have a 597HB also and went through several scopes before my final choice.

Nikon P-Tactical Rimfire 2-7X32 Matte BDC150. Very clear and in the $150 -$200 range.

I tried several scopes before I decided. it was like Goldilocks and the three bears. I didn't keep the 4-12x40 or 3-9x40 scopes on it because those were good for longer distances when cranked up you have to take slow and steady which is okay for shooting a bolt action target rifle. I didn't keep the 1-4x20 or red dots mounted even though it's perfect for fast shooting up close because the rifle is so capable at reaching out farther. The 2-7x32 size fits shooting fast and fun or slow and steady inside 200 yds which is the kind of distances I like. Instead of regular 2-7x32 scopes, I chose this particular scope because the 597HB deserves a tactical look with the exposed adjustment knobs.

I've never used 5, but right now, they'd all be made by Primary Arms!

Running their 30mm Aimpoint Comp knockoff on my AR .22 trainer at the moment, and it's GREAT!


MIGHT be switching to a Vortex Sparc though, to better emulate the T-1's I run on all my 5.56 rifles. For $120, that's hard to beat!

I bought a used tract 4-12 BDC for my sons ruger American . While we were waiting to find a scope, he shot open sights and He doesn’t want the scope on there.
I’d sell it for what I paid for it.

I don't use a scope designed for rimfire rifles on my .22s. I use good quality scopes, Leupold is my favorite. A 3 X 9 with a 40 mm objective is an excellent combination.

Not necessarily the best, but what I'm using and am happy with on the .22LRs

Leupold xv freedom 3-9 rimfire. Just a very nice scope. ~$200. Also check out the 2-7. I'd buy that next if I had anouther .22LR to scope.

Old style Nikon 2-7 prostaff. Discontinued, but a great scope for a stock 10-22

Sightron si 4-12. One I use is the discontinued si-TAC md, but other models are still available. Glass almost as good as the xv freedom, ao, ~$150

Also check out the Hawke 2-7x32ao vantage. Have one on an air rifle. Inexpensive, durable, very nice glass for the price. They also offers rimfire reticles in their 3-9 and 4-12s. Down side, the only one on this list that is made in China.
