I just got a 617 10 shot. You should too.

I caught this gun for sale yesterday on the "for sale" forum and snagged it up. I did the DROS today at On Target because they let you shoot your gun there during your ten day wait.

Holy crap this is a fun gun. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone that likes shooting .22 and or shooting revolvers pick one of these up. Incredible build quality - feels like a gun, not like a toy.

      Good choice!

That's one great revolver, you will love it:

Couple of quick improvements that are easy to do yourself:
Wolff Type 1 standard hammer spring, makes the double action much smoother. Don't get the reduced power one, it gives too many misfires.

      www.gunsprings.com, look under S&W K frame:
Shooter's Pak with a TYPE-1 std. power mainspring.
      Stock No. 17120.....$15.00

And a set of S&W Target grips (the big chunky ones) about $20 in fleabay

And finally, a scope rail for a red dot, I used one similar to this:

Enjoy! Stock up on 22LR, you will be shooting a lot of it.

Oh rub it in that you grabbed that fine fine piece!
Enjoy the heck out of it!
        I'll get one eventually.

Nice! The 4" 10 shot is my favorite version - best balance, great capacity - and is the sweetest full-frame .22 revolver you can get, IMO.

I should probably sell off a few of my cheap .22s for one of these.

Awesome gun. Love mine, will never ever let it go.

Get one (or a few) of these - it doubles the fun.

It's one my favorite gun from my collection and I'll never sell it. Get a 686 4" to match.

In time, you'll want a nice Leather Holster too if you plan to carry it afield. While you search for the perfect Leather one,
I can recommend this Uncle Mike's Flap Holster for < $20:

                      http://cgi.ebay.com/Uncle-Mike-3-4-R...temQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item360144079913&_trksid=p3911.c 0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|24 0%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

The eBay seller accepted my offer of $15 (+ shipping)... so if you're interested, I'd suggest submitting an offer for < $15 to see if he bites.
I couldn't find this model on Uncle Mike's website. Here's my initial impressions:

                      - My 4" 617 fits the flap holster quite snugly. No movement at all.
                      - As you can see, it is a bit wider and "blockier" than the standard Uncle Mike's Sidekick Holster (shown w/ my 6" 617).
                      - The Flap is attached via Velcro to the back side of the holster, and can be adjusted and removed, if desired. A retaining strap (also Velcro attached) is included.
                      - The rear sight is fully protected and covered. It rests 1.5" down into the holster.
                      - The grips are fully covered and protected.
                      - The trigger and trigger guard is also fully covered and protected.

Net: For $20, I'm pleased with the Value, Fit & Finish of this Uncle Mike's Nylon Flap Holster. It fully protects the Grips and Trigger,
and will serve nicely in inclement weather, or when I'm in heavy brush and don't want to risk scratching a nice leather holster.

                      Enjoy!

It's a Real Shame... I was planning to give it to you, my East Bay Brother.
But you know I can't now... since you sold off it's Soul Mate!
