    Quick disconnect 10/22 set up

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Good QD mounts are going to be $$$. They are $$$ because they are supposed to hold their zero when removed and reinstalled. I have not tested it so I cannot comment.

For a 1-4x I recommend the Trijicon Accupower or Steiner PX4i.
For Red Dot I like Aimpoint Micro. Or get the Primary Arms version with the 50k hours battery life.

No point. Good backpack/stealth gear will have room for everything.

Get a "see through" pic rail, they are $10 or so on ebay... you can then use the stock iron sights or a fiber optic set. The added height is about right for a typical cheap red/green dot that isn't terribly big (or heavy) to be left mounted. I have some that need a wrench to remove, and a couple with a QD/riser setup (different guns) - either work fine.

You can buy a set of rings that just have finger tightened knobs and a basic lightweight scope. I have a couple NCStar "STP 3942" (there are multiple variants with different reticles or additional features). They have a nice QD/QR that seems to work well, and were not very expensive. A bit heavy, IMO, but will probably let you shoot accurately out past the range of the gun.

Start with that rail, put whatever else on it that suits your fancy.

I don't think that the top-of-the-line "repeatable" mounts are necessary for this application, unless your buddy is going to be doing serious long range, work. They're usually in the upper reaches of the price range. There are some that are less expensive, but just about universally, they're fairly heavy, usually much bulkier and heavier than "standard" mounts.

I'd suggest the Warne mounts with the thumb lever. No tools are needed for either removing or replacing them, and they're fairly light, as would be desirable on a "backpacking" gun. Brownell's has them.

My fav red dot is the Trijicon MRO, but due to the expense, it might be overkill on a .22. Holosun makes several models that are smaller, lighter and less expensive. In optics, I lean towards the Vortex PSTII 1-6x24 scope, . This sight has an illuminated red dot reticle, so you get the best of both worlds.

If he has the Magpul X22 backpacker stock, there is a matching optic mount that attaches on the barrel side that is perfect for small red dots like Holosun 503 or Sig Romeo 5. Since it is part of the barrel, there is one less factor of error. I had one and it worked great.

This is the best option IMO. IIRC, the mount being described here allows for the irons to still be used.

This is what I have on my TD 10/22, a Warne rail and Warne rings on a scope as well as a QD red dot in the bag as well for options.

When used together the Warne rail and rings are supposedly guaranteed to retain zero.
