    RTB AR22 Upper Build

I want to build a dedicated AR22 upper. Anyone have this? Thoughts on these parts? Am I missing anything? It will be my first upper build.

Looks like you need a handguard and a muzzle device or thread protector for end of the barrel. An Aluminum mloc or keymod handguard will be freefloat and come with barrel nut. If you want to look retro and have an A2 sight and plastic handguard that would take a few more parts.

Good call, I have a Guntec Skelontonized MLOK hand guard and a birdcage flash hider. I probably should have mentioned that, and a cheap red dot and mbus.

Too bad the complete uppers were out of stock to save a few bucks vs separate parts. I don't have any experience with RTB parts but do have three 22AR uppers - CMMG, CZ, Nordic. They are all fun and all shoot good

I built mine with the standard barrel and my old parts, receiver, Ceiner BCG, Levang compensator, etc.

This is the most accurate .22LR I've shot. Easily beats my Henry Golden Boy. I ran a conversion bolt for years and wasted ammo, now I hit consistently at 100 yards. I use the Leupold Freedom 2~7 33mm rimfire scope.

Now I can't get it out of my wifes hands, she loves it. Now I'm building an upper for her, the lightweight barrel and a slick purple honeycombed freefloat to match her custom purple Sun Devil receiver set. She will also get a Kaw linear compensator, she shoots next to me and the noise goes way down.

This .22LR AR and my AR-47 get the most use these days, cheap ammo and a blast.

Well I waited too long and the dedicated bolt went out of stock, so I went a slightly different direction. I went with the cmmg conversion bolt and the Anderson slick side upper. Now I am looking for a lightweight wylde barrel to finish it off. I thought the ability to convert to 223/556 with a standard bolt, CH, and gas system was a nice option for the future.

Just in case you do not know. RTB stuff is just rebranded from CMMG

If you are a member on the AR15 forum. This is a decent deal for a CMMG Barrel and Bolt group. Considered it my self as the price is good. But alas I need to spend money elsewhere right now.

If you are going dropin conversion with the 5.56 barrel. I do think you will be happy with that option. That is what I did my first time out. Went all dedicated since then with all my AR22s. Just makes more sense in many, many ways to to do so.

It functioned fine, but accuracy was not real good. I do not like plugging up the gas system in the 5.56 barrels either. But not a big problem as you fire a 5.56 round through the gas system occasionally to keep it cleared out.

But I would just do it right the first time, that is coming from experience. Not just parroting what I have read elsewhere.

Got the barrel & bolt combo for $229, $59.00 for the upper, $16.95 for charging handle. Got a LPK on sale for $29.00, added a Rise Armament trigger that was also on sale for $98.00.

Put on a polymer lower with an 11" handguard and A2 flashhider I had laying around.

M4 stock to finish it, with Leopold Deltapoint Pro on Leopold mount I had laying around.

Gun weighs exactly 5 lbs with the optic. Shoot sweet, feels like a real AR, and is reliable.

Total with the lower was under $500.00 sans optic & mount.

Which is about what an S&W M&P costs, and I have a polymer lower that can be used on a real AR, a forged upper and handguard I can use on a 9mm PCC if I wanted to, and I don't need special S&W only magazines.

Got four 35 round mags during Freedom Week for my Sig 522, which also work in this gun.

It's a hoot to shoot, so light it swings and transitions super smooth. I'd make it lighter if I could, but I can't think of what would reduce the weight other than losing the flash hider (which I'm keeping for aesthetics).

Rise Armament makes some nice triggers at about the $100.00 price-point.

The lightweight barrel is accurate at 100 yards. Wife is happy.

                    AR22

Here's the one I built. 5 lbs even, with optic and mount. Solid shooter.
