    Beretta 89 magazine substitute?

    Hi all
Anybody else have a Beretta 89 and found a substitute for the factory mags?
I still have the original pair it came with when it was new back in '96 but I started thinking I'd like another mag or two (kinda late, I know).
I heard the 87 10 rounders work so I ordered one and, while the body, spring, follower are all good, the base plate is far too large to fit into the grip.
Now before I spend even more money on yet another mag has anyone tried the other model 87 mag, the 8 rounder? It looks like the base plate might be smaller.
    thanks in advance

Well, I guess the 89 is a bit uncommon. Maybe there aren't any others out on CGN?
Looks like I'll just spend money experimenting with 87 mags to see if I can find one that fits. Original 89 mags seem a bit on the rare side these days.

Yeah, like I said, I'm a little late on this purchase.

I lucked into several a few years ago. Weren't cheap. Haven't seen any since. Still have at least one unopened.

From what 've read the tubes from the 87 and 89 are the same. Sourcing 89 base pads is harder than finding mags. RFC has several threads n the subject.

89 mags pop up occasionally on GB and eBay. Typically for about 90.00 to 100.00. 87 mags can be had for 1/3 of that. The difference is the base pads. You look into 3d printing some base pads?

Did you try to remove the thick rubber part off the baseplate on your 87 mags? It is a two piece base with the rubber part being held by a screw, remove the screw and only the rubber base slides off.
Try and see if it fits the 89 by removing that portion of the base. Good luck

I've had my son 3D print base plates for Glocks, a Smith 1006 and some Beretta 92s too. He does them out of PLA. Plenty strong if using 50% infill or greater. I think the ones's hes done for me are close to 100% infill.

He just printed a clamp for my friend's rifle so he can quickly mount it to a bipod or take it off. Plenty strong for that too. And he printed a Fender Stratocaster guitar body....all that string tension and still holding up fine.

I didn’t think the plastic in 3D printing was that strong. Especially with the thin sections where the mag body slides into baseplate.
                    I don’t have a 3D printer but it’s an interesting idea.
