Used rimfires?

Condition. Condition. Condition.
Buy used. Save money. A lot of used firearms haven't been shot alot. But again that comes back to the condition. Just because a firearm is brand new doesnt mean it won't have issues. A lot of the older firearms are built better than the stuff manufacturers are producing nowadays. Just make sure to inspect and used firearm before buying (same with new).
Marks and scuff on a used firearm won't matter much if you plan on using it and just a show piece.
My 2 cents.

Still shooting the Mossberg 142a my Dad got for Christmas in the 1950's. It's had thousands and thousands of rounds thru it;it is still accurate and shoots really nice.
Look at condition of used rifles. Clean, no majors dings or dents? Bore look good?
I personally really like the used racks. But I also check things out before buying...Comment

If you are not comfortable with inspecting the guns yet, buy new.
60/795 are good.
Consider paying a little more for a Ruger 10/22.
Lots more room for upgrades.Originally posted by Kestryll:

I have a few .22's. love them all. I would seriously look at used because you will save some $$ even if the gun is only a couple of years old. Like it was mentioned before, older guns are made better in some ways, especially if you something with a wood stock. I have a 10/22 that my dad gave me when I was a kid; it's over 50 years old. That rifle still shoots great and I have plans to pass it on to one of my kids some day.sigpic
Get involved, let's fix these 2nd Amendment misunderstandings.
It's not the size of your gun that counts, only the fun factor...

I buy all my Firearms used. Usually tax free too through private sales.. I will not even buy a used newer Marlin made after Remington took them over. I love my Marlins. But as far as I am concerned Marlin ceased to exist when they sold the Company to Remington. Only good thing about the sale was they will never let Marlin use the trademark stock bullseye anymore.
Only 10-22 I would buy is a pre warning model with the steel buttplate and metal trigger guard. But that is just me. You will pay more for one of those, and they are harder to find, but worth the search and extra money to do so.
Buying used and in good condition is always a better option than new in my opinon. Even if it takes a little longer to find the right one.Last edited by AR22; 03-20-2020, 5:33 PM.Comment

I bought a new Marlin 795 & it's been a great gun. But some months back I had a chance to shoot a decades-old 795, it had been passed down for a few generations. Wow, that gun was smooth. I don't care about the round count, if I had a chance to trade my semi-new one for that old one, I would have done it in a heartbeat.---------------------

My Bicentennial 10/22 is fun. Shoots decent. But Dad's old Mossy 142a outshoots it.
Most fun 22 I have shot was pump action. Buddy has a Rossi; it is a hoot!

I have two Remington 121 "Fieldmaster"s. I wouldn't mind a third. They're pump action. Made iirc from 1936 to 1974, so C&R. Mine have been indestructible, shoot anything, and shoot short, long, and long rifle ammo. Accuracy like little lasers.

Buy used. New is overrated.
I still teach newbies with my mom’s 1940’s era Stevens bolt action model 56
I also think everyone should have a 10/22. I don’t shoot it often but it’s still ultra reliable after 35 years of owning it.Comment

I prefer buying new if I want something with a warranty or can't find a used piece, or just don't have the patience.
My last 2 pistols were bought on the forum here and both were in great condition with low round counts. Just gotta be patient, or wait for a sale.
Take a friend who knows firearms if you wanna inspect a used piece and need a second set of eyes.Comment

If money is no object, buy a new one. Or an old stock NIB. Otherwise...
Check the WTS rimfire forum and go!
