I'm in the market for a dedicated upper but don't know who's are quality & who's to stay away from. Spikes seems to be the most mentioned from what I've read. CMMG has theirs & I've been more than pleased with all my other CMMG products. Model 1 sales, KKF, Tactical Solutions, Olympic, DPMS, etc... I have an extra CMMG lower that is complete just waiting for a .22 upper. Thanks for your suggestions!

tacsol has the beefiest bolt design...and its stainless steel, on a "tool metal" rail...accuracy is also VERY good with decent ammo...mine shoots anything i throw at it..definitely a good contender to consider

I met a man from Cal-guns at my local range, he had the Spikes upper and then a CMMG conversion kit on his other upper, both same lenght / set up, he was shooting a few different types of ammo, He could not tell which was "better" or more accurate, shooting at 25y and 50y both grouped about the same, and functioned the same, Just check the legality of conversions / caliber swaping in AR platfoms, I was told you can do it but one way is "illegal" but I would check just to be sure.Comment

With that in mind I would go Spikes for two reasons.I met a man from Cal-guns at my local range, he had the Spikes upper and then a CMMG conversion kit on his other upper, both same lenght / set up, he was shooting a few different types of ammo, He could not tell which was "better" or more accurate, shooting at 25y and 50y both grouped about the same, and functioned the same, Just check the legality of conversions / caliber swaping in AR platfoms, I was told you can do it but one way is "illegal" but I would check just to be sure.
1. Excellent customer service, they literally bend over backwards for you. (I know from experience with my ST-22)
2. That nickel plated bolt carrier is so easy to clean and requires little to no oil.Comment

Ok, I just ordered a 16" Tactical Solutions M4 sytle dedicated .22lr upper. I have an extra fully assembled CMMG "223/5.56" caliber marked lower with M4 stock I plan on mating with this upper. Does the lower need to specify "multi caliber" or ".22lr" to legally drop mags? Thanks for all the info so far guys.Liberals could fk up an anvilComment

I plan on building my own. Its a hell of a lot cheaper. $200 for the bolt and the magazine, and $185 for the barrel. The rest of the parts are standard AR parts.
I'll remove the sarcastic/jerk response. No it doesn't matter what (caliber) is stamped on your lower. Why would it

Nope Cal Markings are useless and mean nothing. I ruun raddlock on bothmy lowers because I like to switch them back and forth. I unlock one for the .22 and re-lock it once I ma done using it and or before throwing my .223 upper back on. Now I have 2 lowers and 1 upper that is a .22 but I still keep 1 locked and 1 unlocked while assembled as a .22 dedicated AR. At the range I have had the RSO come over and check to see if it is indeed a .22 upper I am using in order to drop out mags. Have fun with it, the best part is dropping mags and doing mag dumps at private places or at BLM LandOk, I just ordered a 16" Tactical Solutions M4 sytle dedicated .22lr upper. Why would you need to be sarcastic or a jerk in response to a simple question? I have seen .22lr marked lowers available but wasn't sure if they are marked that way for fun or something more. Just trying to keep out of trouble.I plan on building my own. Its a hell of a lot cheaper. $200 for the bolt and the magazine, and $185 for the barrel. The rest of the parts are standard AR parts.
Cool! I don't have the time or motivation to build one from scratch.

The conversion kit and barrel already totals to about 400. With the rest of the parts to buy you aren't really saving much if any.
