Issue Assembling 10/22 Takedown

Hello all,

Previously I've never had an issue assembling/disassembling my 10/22 Takedown but I noticed one that it would not assembly properly. The barrel goes in properly, but when attempting to lock in place, it seems there isn't enough gap between the spacer and clamp to lock. I can't recall if I ever removed the two bolts holding the clamp, but if I loosen it just a bit, I can lock the barrel into place, although it is canted a bit. It looks like I can insert two shims between the clamp and receiver for fitment, but just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. For reference, adjustment knob is loosened all the way and barrel still does not lock.

Have you loosened the adjustment knob as much as it can go? If it's too tight you won't be able to lock the barrel in place. back it all the way out,and if that works then adjust it little by little until you have a right fit. Hope that's the problem

I had this problem once.
I loosened the number 10 bolts to lightly snug so the number 9 clamp could move a little.
Then I put the barrel on and aligned the clamp so the lock up was correct.
I eased the barrel off being careful to not disturb the clamp position.
Then I retightened the clamp bolts and never had the problem again.

It's likely your adjusting knob has gotten turned - it doesn't take much. Turn it clockwise (if viewing from shooter's standpoint) until the barrel can't insert all the way, then turn it counterclockwise until the barrel inserts completely, then try one click clockwise - it should be firm, but not too tight. One click either direction and it will be too tight or too loose.

Right now, the adjusting knob is probably a bit too far clockwise, so the barrel can't be fully pressed in to position. Don't loosen the bolts... wrong solution to the problem, you don't want the lockup to be sloppy.
