    AR 22LR barrel suggestions

Looking to build dedicated upper using an extra CMMG bolt. It appears to me that CMMG or RTB are the go to for 22lr barrels, barring precision barrels. Am I missing anything? Also I am thinking that a pencil barrel will suffice. I am primarily thinking of 16" or 18" for plinking and hunting.

According to this guy 16-18” is good. I have a tac sol upper I really like. I’ve been looking at the RTB barrels to build another upper. They are great for training and plinking.

I’d like to hear from some more experienced and knowledgeable calgunners about lightweight 22lr barrels and accuracy. I know with larger caliber rifles, accuracy decreases with a hot barrel. What about 22lr?

    Lightweight 16” = 23.3 oz
    M4 16” = 1.8 lb or 28.8 oz.

Didn’t see a heavy barrel RTB option.

I really like my Beyer barrel on my dedicated upper. It's a .920" bull profile, but it's a lined aluminum barrel so it's super light. With good ammo it's as accurate as any of my .22 bolt guns. He's got lots of options and was a great guy to deal with, highly recommend at least checking out his website

Oooh, I've been waiting for a thread like this. I have a upper receiver with some unimportant damage to it (the retention tab for the dust cover snapped off) and a rail/barrel nut I couldn't sell, so I've been thinking of buying a .22LR bolt and barrel and making a trainer out of it. I'll be checking out the suggestions as well.

I have the CMMG made RTB standard .22LR nitride barrel. It's very accurate, about 2 moa with good ammo. It loves Federal AutoMatch better than gold match. It costs $99. The BCG is an old Ceiner with a CMMG stainless steel head attached.

RTB stuff is actually just rebranded CMMG made parts. As far as RTB being the go to for barrels. They are a good Company. But I would just shop around and find the place that has the lowest price on CMMG Barrels right now. If that happens to RTB, then get it from them. I kinda despise CheaperthanDirt. But when I bought my CMMG 20" GP Barrel. They were the only ones that showed one in stock, and the lowest price too.

Unless you are looking to hunt flies or something with it. A CMMG barrel will do just fine. A Clint Beyer would be nice. But they are expensive and a standard CMMG Barrel with good ammo will already out shoot most of our abilities anyway.

I would have gone with a bolt if it was just for accuracy, but I received 2 cmmg kits as gifts. Passing on Beyer. My kits are the bravo versions. Do I need the barrel collar?

If you have the bravo, then yes you will need to swap the 5.56 chamber adapters out for the dedicated collars. You could of course use a regular AR15 5.56 barrel, but accuracy suffers quite a bit.. I would do it right by getting the correct dedicated barrel and dedicated collar. Before swapping the collars out. Read a little on doing it. Not hard to do, but there is a method to do it correctly. You do not want to bend the rails.
