I don't own one, but, I will add the cost of the 17HWR is pretty costly per round.
Now, I do have a 17HMR rifle and I love it. Great little plinking round, not certain how the round fire's out of a pistol. I think this would be considered a "longer" range rimfire cartage, longer range would normally not be associated with the short barrel of a pistol.
If you really want a Ruger, why not purchase the 22LR/22WMR convertible?

I have owned a Ruger Single Six in 22 LRj/22 Magnum. I really like this handgun, and it is a lot of fun to shoot, but when I shoot the magnum round out of the pistol, it does not increase the power that much. I think the 22 Magnum's performance is best achieved out of a rifle, and I would think the same with the 17 HMR.

I have one and think it's a great gun/caliber. That being said I don't use it for anything I couldn't also do with one chambered on 22lr. I modified it to free spin with the gate open. Makes it easier to load those skinny 17hmr rounds

It a good gun, a keeper, only if you have a deep pocket for ammo. Did you compare the price of 17hmr and 9mm ammo ? unless you reloaded.

I've had .17 handguns. Can't see the bullet holes anymore..... Reactive targets or question marks.

In my post #3 above, I totally overlooked the fact that the OP has a desire for this handgun/ammo combo, so I say he should get it. If he does not like it, he can sell it. Ruger Single Six's maintain their value. OP, if you are desiring this, then get it.
