Marlin 783 .22 magnum

I bought a Bushnell A17 scope and put it on a Marlin 783 .22 magnum I got from my father when he passed away.

Previously it had a Bushnell 4x scope and the accuracy was good but not spectacular.

I sighted it in today using WW HP rounds at 50 yds.

The target is 5 rounds that could be covered by a 3/4" target paster. Looks like it was the scope and not the rifle all this time. This is the best $60 I've ever spent on a scope, amazing clarity.

That's a fantastic group considering the .22 WMR cartridge, generally speaking, doesn't have the greatest rep for consistency.

I have a Marlin 882 but I sight it in for 100 yards. The accuracy is about double your group at 100, so that fits. My Winchester 9422M shoots 3/4 to 1 inch at 100. I was surprised the lever action outshot my bolt action.

My 882 shoots best with the Winchester Super X 40 gr HPs too. I also inherited it from my Dad.

I only had 50 yds available today, next will be at 100. The range goes to 550 but I don't think I'll try for the maximum distance!

Amazing how good glass can make an average rifle shoot so well? I wasted ammo for a year with my Henry stock sites. Leupold made it a sharpshooter.

Finally got this out to the range again for a 100 yd sight in. Once that was dialed in I went after the 200 yd steel plates. They are about 1' in size. It took about 12 clicks elevation adjustment to get to the plate and then hitting was no problem.

I had more fun shooting this rifle than the Colt A4 and the M1 rifle I also took to the range.

The scope wasn't expensive but for what I do with it, it is great.

When I inherited the rifle from my father I was much more interested in .30 rifles with iron sights but 12 years later the big boomers are less interesting and this rifle has pushed its way to the front of the pack.

Next I will try the 300 yd plates.
