Brand new ruger takedown bolt rust
Guided/Semi Guided Wild Boar Hunts In Central California, Shay Balesteri 831.594.1270Tags: None -
He ran it without first cleaning the internals?
It could be the heat of firing it caused the grease used for preserving the metal (from the factory) caused the ooze. Very common when you don't pre-flight any new firearm and give it a good inside out clean/lube before shooting it.
Clean it up with rubbing alcohol and relube with whatever you normally use. -
It sounds like OEM storage grease. It has a brown color which you can only usually see in places where it is applied heavily and more than needed.
I suggest a thorough solvent cleaning followed by an application of CLP.Benefactor Life Member, National Rifle Association

The receiver is aluminum and the bolt is steel. I doubt that the bolt was rusting. Most grease is turns brown, especially when it is old. I know of many people who see brown grease and right away believe that it is rust on a gun. Clean the bolt and look at it if there is rust it will be evident by the corrosion.Comment
