    The Ithaca M49 single shot was superseded by the 49R repeater that broke more times than it worked. The M72 repeater (Erma 71) replaced it. Search Ithaca M72 auctions, that will give you a real world price. Yes, the Henry .22 was based on that rifle.
    JMO, but it comes from teaching an untold number of kids to shoot, a semi auto is a bad idea to learn on. So are scoped rifles. Start with a single shot or clip fed bolt gun. That's where they learn the basics of safety, sight alignment, trigger control, etc.
    Work up to a semi, and a scope, and she'll be a better shooter for it.
