Picked up my Ruger Wrangler from LGS yesterday, have not shot it yet, but thought I would toss out a few impressions after handling it. I have owned at least 4 single sixes, and both an old and new model bearcat so I think I have a little experience with Ruger single action 22s.
First I paid the full pop of $249.00 plus fees for it, it was one of three that they had gotten and sold all three inless that two hours, I got the last one, Well aware if I had waited I could have gotten it cheaper but didnt want to wait or drive a couple hours to the nearest Turners twice to save a few bucks. Have been buying rugers since the early 70s, and didn't want to get involved in another ruger fiasco...anybody remember the XGI they advertised then decided not to sell?
Got the black one, it was a little heavier in the hand then expected but does feel right, frame to grip frame fit is good, front edge of grip to frame has a gap, but knew that going in, finish is very uniform on gun.
Hammer pull seemed pretty stiff and trigger pull had only slight take up, breaking around 5 pounds I would guess with out measuring it.
It does not seem to have any sharp edges, the sights are smallish and a bit hard to see with 65 year old eyes.
The main concern I have is the cyl to barrel gap looks excessive likely at the outer edge spec's, since 22s are known for shaving ammo if not timed right this could be a source of trouble. Have a full week so I wont hit the range for a few days. Will keep posted on barrel/cyl gap. Over all do like the gun, if it doesnt have a lead shaving problem I can see it wearing a set of ruger Ivory grips next to the Mark 3 in my safe.
