Ammo for ruger 10/22

I have a ruger 10/22 target with heavy forged barrel

I have tried, Aguilar high v, standard velocity too, cci standard v,

Cci m mags, 40 &36 gr., federal auto match,

Still not happy with results,

Shooting at paper 25 to 50 yards

Has a leupold scope.

What other brands of ammo is out there that someone might be using
And getting good results?.

Eley makes a variety of match ammo.

Its really hard to experiment now that the ammo laws prevent direct delivery.

Match ammo is not priced like .22 bulk ammo.

I picked up some ELEY match ammo from Bass Pro Shops,
it was $8.99 per 50rds ; great results with my 10/22
at 50-100yds, but only got a couple boxes due to price.

Separate a box into 3-4 different weights

So from 500 rounds you end up with a few piles where all are of similar weight.

Better consistency from bulk


Match is the answer. I heard good things about wolf match a few years ago

I tricked out a 1980 10/22 with kidd stuff, 2 stage and heavy 20” barrel, added a kydex cheek riser, leup 3x10x50.

With match ammo it can make a tiny hole at 50y.

Evidently, you bought the wrong 22 rifle if you want precision.

Not a single one of those ammo you listed is match grade. Try a couple different boxes of match grade ammo, I bet you will get much better results. Start with a box of SK standard or Wolf Match (same thing made by Lapua.)

Wolf Match Extra. Just handling those cartridges tells you of their quality.
Champion Shooters Supply is an excellent resource for BR quality 22 LR.
No Wolf match extra available unfortunately.

The last thing I will add is what is your set up to shoot from. Ideally you want a support system that allows for you to sight in the rifle at where you want to hit and be able to step away from it and still have it aimed at that point.
Watch some videos of how and what guys who shoot rimfire matches use. This is one of the few great benefits from videos as it relates to technique.
You may be amazed at how tighter you can shoot just tweaking your technique.

Plus, everyone has off days. But I agree there is much better ammo then what you are shooting for greater consistency.

There is a place in Arizona, they will test your gun with difference kind of ammo then let you know which one is the best for your gun. I forget the name but somebody here will do. The catch is you have to buy a large amount of ammo from them.

There are so many things that determine a good shooting rifle that no one can tell you what your rifle, not you, will like. Rugers are not known for competition. My 1235 LV was a very good shooter out of the box, compared to my 4 others. 1.0" to 1.5" at 50 yards depending upon the ammo, discounting the ammo fliers and without using the so called competition ammo. It has only seen sv ammo. Changed to a Brimstone worked trigger and a Kidd spring/rod combo. Never have a FTF or FTE. To put my two cents in on the ammo:

Eley doesn't shoot well in any of my rifles. RWS too. I forget who makes what as I can't find my list. Norma Tac for years was a good choice, as I bought cases of it under $30 at Cabela's using sales, gift cards, rebaters, etc. Some of the recent stuff have a few more fliers than the older stuff. Also some Norma Match, which to my guns, isn't worth the extra $$. SK stuff is usually better than Norma and CCI sv on any given day, but not always. Again, I bought cases of SK Std + when I could get it under $40 with sales. Graf was one of the vendors two years ago for their 60th anniversary sale. Also bought a couple of cases of SK Rifle Match from them when they had a super sale at $38 a brick. It usually shoots better than the Std+, but, again, not always. All my guns love Lapua Center X and several others, but I'm not paying those prices. I do have a brick of several and shoot them sparingly. Calamity and go through 50K rounds a year, her shooting mostly CCI Tacts hv and a few others, me all sv's in my Rugers and CZ's.

As I said, there's many factors that make a good grouping and they constantly vary, even when shooting the same ammo a half hour apart.

I just changed my ss Ruger 1264 barrel as it has always been a very poor shooter no matter what ammo. I've put 400 rounds of various sv's through it so far and now constantly get 1" or less at 50 yards, with an occasional flier at 1.5". This is using a bipod only. CCI sv's are the best of the "cheapo's" (under $20 a brick delivered) for me and my rifles.

25 yards? My Henry Golden Boy puts Federal AutoMatch bullets on top of each other with a Leupold scope. That ammo seems to work best with the lever gun. Lapua and Federal match don't do as well. Same with Aguila hyper maximum.

I’ve had superb results with Wolf Match Target in anything I put those rounds into. Phenomenal in fact.

OP from your list of ammo you've tried it isn't surprising that you're not happy with the results. 22 accuracy comes down to good quality ammo and good technique. You have to spend the time shooting various brands of different ammo to find out which ammo your rifle prefers.
