    S&W Model 41 / Model 41 Performance Center

As my eyes are going south, am buying a high end .22 for use with a red dot.
As I understand it the model 41 is exempt as its an exempt Olympic competition pistol. https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...s/forms/op.pdf

But a local shop said the 41 is ok but not the 41 with the PC rail?
Which is the main reasons I am interested in the PC model over a standard 41.
Anyone tried bringing one in? Seems foolish to me as I can purchase any used .22lr Model 41 from out of state, that was made in the past 62 years. .
    Thanks in advance!

If you want a new 41 with a rail there’s two things you can do. You can buy the particular model that particular shop will order for you and then get a second barrel with the rail, or find another shop that will order you the performance center model. Some shops will tell you they can’t legally get you one, and some shops will tell you they can(I’m sure half the people that comment will say the same thing). I personally would just look for a shop that will get you what you want.

So far, the shops I have called are not on board. They also over charge compared to the rest of the world. lol

I would start calling kitchen table FFL's or pawn shops. You'll eventually find a knowledgeable FFL that's comfortable doing an Olympic exemption on a PC Model 41. It's still a Model 41. The exemption also doesn't distinguish between 5", 5.5" and 7". So a PC shouldn't matter. They're all still Model 41's.

Agree, called the "in home FFL" I have used over the past several yrs. and he let his Lic. go recently do to the avalanche of CA. BS. I don't blame him a bit. He was breaking about even at best. Huge hassle for next to nothing. Sad but they have pretty much disappeared in my circle. And I have been doing this since the early 80's. Out of state purchases. As I am thrifty........Guess I should just be happy with what I have. Until things improve here. If thats possible.

Your other option is to buy a regular 41 and then buy a Clark barrel, which is made with a rail $325. It takes about 20 seconds to change barrels.

I have a Clark barrel on order (they are currently backordered). I am researching red dots, but I plan to keep my 1973 original barrel and shoot both.

If home ffl guys don’t work out try calling gunstores outside your area. I haven’t seen one in a store in 10 years and saw 2 in the last month ( neither were performance center), one was at one of the shops that only sells “tactical” ar type stuff.

Found a sane (smaller) shop close to home. Scored a nib 41PC from a dealer on Gun Broker / $1349.00. I have heard they only make a couple / few hundred per year, and believe this run is drying up pretty fast. So, I made the leap. Rif Gear has a bunch, prob because they are selling them at *Suggested Retail,* $1,619.00 for PC and $1369 for a regular 41...Hope I get a good one from the factory..... And Hope I made the right choice getting a PC over a std 5.5". Time will tell.

Thanks, have been kicking it around for 20-30 yrs.
Figured this is prob a good time. As they are available and still legal to buy.

You can also search for local ffl's by zip code on the BATFE website.
