    Remington 511x safety question

    Hello,

I have a Remington 511x Scoremaster that is a project gun. Someone shortened both the barrel and stock so it will be perfect for my nephew in a year or two.

Everytime I pull the bolt back after its forward, it activates the safety. I haven't taken the receiver down yet, but is this a problem others have encountered?

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Much appreciated.

Sounds like something is bent or binding up.

Thanks for that. I'll take it apart and look at everything really carefully. Hopefully don't have to hunt down a bunch of parts.

If anything is bent, it's probably the safety screw, CFN has all the safety parts.

Isn't it supposed to be that way by design? My 510 has that automatic safety feature.

Your 510 is a single shot, and they have that feature, but the 500 series repeaters(mag & tube feed) didn't.
Thanks for the thought food. I wonder if maybe there's nothing wrong with the 511X, and it simply has a 510 safety installed? Parts interchange pretty easy on these. Remington even did it from the factory. I have a 513T built on a tube feed receiver with scope mount grooves, and it came from Remington like that.

            General Kronstadt, got some pics?

Now that you said that it makes sense. You're likely right. It's a 511x barrel and stock for sure - scoremaster on barrel and magwell. But, it had a single shot front receiver inset installed which blocked the magwell. Seems to be quite a FrankenRem.

I'll post pics when I work on it next.

So I guess buying a 511 safety(or 500 series that didn't have that feature?) is in my future if i get sick of that?

I'd leave it while the nephew learns to shoot it, it's one of the reasons Rem made them like that. Later, you can change it up the way he wants it. Two pins to change a barrel, "if" it needs a head space correction, all it takes is a shim in the bolt body. Simple to work on, and no shortage of parts.
