Dedicated lower for 22 AR?

Why do I need a dedicated lower for a 22 upper? Can I use a lower that is marked "556" or "multi cal"?

Though this has been covered many times, yes, you can use a lower marked in any sort of caliber for your .22lr build. Just make sure that you make it compliant before (re)attaching it to a centerfire upper.

You can use any lower that you like. It could say "30mm Cannon" or "Photon Torpedo" on the lower and it is still fine to use.

Some folks are more comfortable with a lower that is marked "22LR" but that is just a comfort issue. Personally, I prefer to have a bullet button installled on all my lowers (regardless of how they are marked), even if I am using them with a dedicated 22LR upper.

I picked up a Lauer lower with no caliber markings for a .22 build. Never got it finished, but still have the lower
