Winchester 9422M

Picked up my first Winchester today (well in 10 days that is), a beautiful 9422 Mag like new and from what I can see it has barely been fired. It came from an estate sale and I picked it up for the outrageous price of under $600. Anyone have any tips to help the wood really glow? iIts absolutely beautiful and I bet it will polish up nicely. I was also wondering if anyone could point me to a good Winchester site? Thanks!

Mine realy likes the Winchester soft point and the perform very well on game .
I paid a 100 bucks for mine. Furniture polish works good on the stock.

Congratulations! I don’t have any recommendations for you, I just wanted to say that I bet you’ll love the rifle. The 9422 is such a nice gun. I bought one in December (the 22lr version).

$600 is a great price for what you described. Have fun with it!

Saturday it will be home. However, I have visitation rights while she's locked up. I almost passed on it because I didn't want the WMR version. I changed my mind in 6 hours.

Funny how things work out, two weeks ago I was prepared to trade an HK for a 38/357 lever action. Then Duncan v Becerra happened and it started raining magazines (won't trade the HK now).

The good thing about picking a nice 9422M for $600, is if you eventually decide the 22 WMR is not right for you, you can probably trade it with someone on Calguns for a 38/357 without losing money on the deal.

My first lever action was a Marlin 1894 in 38/357. It was so much fun that I started looking at other lever actions. Like you, I didn’t own a Winchester, but they always appealed to me because they are such iconic American guns. The 9422 is a well made, smooth cycling, accurate American made rifle.

Congrats! I just bought one for $900. I didn't even know this thing existed but snapped when I saw it on the shelf and talked to the shop owner about it. Now I want the 22lr version too and I don't even have the darned thing yet.

2 more days, can't wait. Picked up 100 rounds of CCI, 100 rounds of Hornady, 100 rounds of Winchester Super X, and 100 rounds of Aguila. A favorite bullet will be known by Monday!

What a great find! That rifle looks nearly pristine. The wood looks pretty nice in the pictures.

This may sound a bit silly. but go to a musical instrument store and pick up a bottle of Gibson Guitar Polish. Shake it well, spray onto a soft cloth and apply gently--you will not need a lot. Buff with a dry, soft cloth.

I love my 9422M, but it is the plain jane, uncheckered model. It outshoots my bolt action .22 mags, though mine likes the33 (?) gr HP Win Supreme ammo, while the bolt action Marlin likes the Win Super X HPs. The Winchester also shoots the CCI Green ammo well, too.

I bought a 9422 LAPD Father Son Commemorative last year. What a great gun they definitely do not make them like that anymore. I have it in the safe but it looks exactly like this one: https://www.gunauction.com/buy/12606289

It did not have the box and it looks like it was fired about 50 times, but what a great gun.

Took the Winnie shooting today, It is without a doubt my favorite rifle, far exceeded my expectations. I also brought my new unfired CZ, and that is now my favorite production handgun, but that's another discussion.

Only things with the 9422m were:

I wish the front sight was easier to see. The little silver bead is hard to pickup, and there is no way I'm putting a fiber front like my Ruger (even though it works really really well).

I discovered I cannot take out the brass tube because the "o ring" can't get past the barrel band unless I loosen it. Make using a speed feeder impossible.

After 100 rounds or so, your knuckles start to hurt from the lever but the gun functions well with an outside grab as well and is far more comfortable. Of course a glove works too.

And finally, 22 WMR actually can get expensive it is NOT like 22lr.

Shooting more Monday, Wed, and Sat. this time I'll take some pictures but yeah I think I'll be keeping her.
