    Sig 522 legality

    Hey all
I have a question for all the legal eagles. I have a sig 522 I bought when I lived in Kalifornia. I now live in Texas. I am going to visit my son in ca. and I want to bring the 522 to go out shooting with my son. I know there have been some crazy law changes so I want be sure I can bring it with me. The 522 is the classic version, detachable mag, folding stock, flash hider, pistol grip. Is this still good to go for a visit. Thanks Jack

What part of CA I know a range in SD where they dont care. Make it easy on yourself lol. Otherwise I dont know if you need to change anything to make it legal. I would assume because its factory rimfire its already legal.

The 15-22 is legal with everything on it to purchase, just doesn't come with high cap magazines.

22LR is exempt from CA AW regulations...still need to meet all other DOJ requirements for OAL and 10 round mags.

I'm no expert. But your rifle is a 22 not restricted. But any magazine over 10 rd would be a no go in the state of California since your bringing them into California and they were not purchased in California before restrictions were enacted. Sorry but California is the no fun state.

If the 25 round mags that came with it came from california, I can bring them or should just bring 10 rounds?

Best be safe and just bring 10-rounders.

10 or less round magazines only.

The exemption that allowed people who legally owned/possessed large capacity magazines in CA to go out-of-state with them and return to CA was removed.
^No longer in effect on 07-01-2017.
~The previous Court ordered injunction, regarding the recent changes to CA large capacity magazine laws, did not bring back this exemption.

So, once you leave CA with your legally owned large capacity magazines, you can not legally return with them.
^They need to be stored or disposed of while out-of-state or made into permanently modified 10 round magazines. Otherwise, it's felony importation of large capacity magazines.

BTW any rim fire still has to be in the trunk and locked away if your transporting in California. You can't have in the driver or passenger arrea of the car.

In California the legal term is large capacity (over 10). Standard capacity is for other States.

wh-what? Why would a rimfire rifle have stricter transport regulations than a CF rifle, or a pistol? As long as my pistol(s) is in a locked case, it can be sitting on the seat beside me. Even having loaded magazines in the locked case is legal as long as they aren't placed in the pistol

Can't recall right at the moment but I believe a longgun only needs to be in a case, but it doesn't have to be locked.

Of course, this is all predicated on the weapons being unloaded.
