Forget the Ruger 10/22 and get a bolt action if you want accuracy.

I have a Savage Mk ii and a couple of semi-auto .22s to go with it. The semi-autos have two advantages. First, faster follow-up shots if you wound a varmint. Second, you can shoot up your ammunition stockpile a lot faster.

I'm keeping the semi-autos just in case varmints learn to shoot back.

I recently bought a blued one, and installed a Kidd single stage 1.5lb trigger. By far, the most accurate Ruger factory barrel I've ever shot - and I've shot quite a few. I would have purchased the stainless from CDNN, but they don't ship to CA and I didn't know about AUDIOPHIL2's service. I bought mine off GB, like the laminated stock and the interesting appearance of the spiral barrel, even in black. It shoots on par with my other heavy "build" - Ruger receiver and bolt, Shaw 18" stainless bull barrel, Kidd trigger, Archangel target stock - and cost about $100 less.

Both will shoot on par with my CZ 452 Varmint with a 12oz Rifle Basix trigger, which is my most accurate 22lr bolt gun. Of course, YMMV. I may have just gotten lucky. I believe the 10/22T models, both blued and stainless, were some of the most accurate 10/22s Ruger has ever produced. The new Competition may be better yet - time will tell. The factory trigger in my 10/22T was the best Ruger factory trigger I've encountered, but didn't come close to any of the Kidds I own.

Now if you want a REALLY accurate 10/22, look at the Kidd Supergrade. I followed the 10/22T with a Supergrade barreled action, 20" Match Stainless, Kidd two-stage trigger, mounted in a Victor Titan stock with the Voctor rear tang. Buy once, cry once.....

Love my 10/22, but a bolt action sounds interesting. Thanks.

For shooting at paper 25 to 50 yards

                  Any comments good and bad
Biggest thing I want is accuracy.
                  I have one.

Mine has the brown laminated stock.

I want a lighter .22LR semi-auto so it will be going to a friend.

I have the 1262. Nice gun for a 10/22 and it out shoots my cz 455 evo. Even though it comes with the target trigger, i installed the kidd trigger kit and it breaks very nice now. Also changed to a beautiful Revolution thumbhole stock but that was just for personal preference.

I would recommend one for the price they shoot well.
