10 22 bolt drag/sticking

I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a bolt that sticks when charging? It's almost like a 2 stage bolt, first pull opens the breach easily then it takes a bit more effort to pull it back all the way. I did replace the bolt handle and wondered if it was dragging on the spring shaft. If I cycle it with authority it doesn't stick, it only happens when I pull slowly.

NOTE: I have not shot this 10 22 yet, and have only experienced it manually charging. I'm not sure if it is sticking enough that the blowback won't cycle it, but obviously the smoother the better I would like to avoid FTE. Thanks

Look for tooling marks or rough spots. You can also go over with a fine stone to smooth it out. Make sure everything is assembled right. Also did you add a drop or 2 of oil?

did you mount a scope rail on her ?

sometimes the screws are a bit long and can cause a little drag.

A couple drops of oil on the recoil spring guide / charging handle is important.
As Capt. Dunsel mentioned, be sure any scope mount screws aren't sticking out inside the receiver.

No scope mounted yet, I think IF it's anything it's the charging handle rod. I tried to save a couple of pennies and didn't get the voquartsen.

Make sure the rod is straight.
You can polish off any surface roughness with emery cloth or fine sandpaper.
But first put the original guide rod back in and make sure that everything works OK, if so, you know the new rod is the problem.

The rod that the spring mounts on is painted in a stock 10-22. The paint can gall. Polish off the paint and oil it well.

When you pull slowly and it "sticks" you are feeling the bolt contact the hammer and cocking it. Pull the barreled receiver out of the stock, push the two FCG pins out and put a touch of grease on the hammer face and contact point on the underside of the bolt.

The KIDD spring and guide rod kit is very inexpensive, tuneable and helps also!

Hmm. I think it might be captive? Check youtube, but i definately had the space to clean mine up.

It's probably normal as all 10/22s kinda feel like that. The hammer/bolt engagement angle that causes this effect is part of the out of battery safety system, so I just leave mine alone.

If it really bugs you, maybe do the scotch bright thing, or try a little bolt chamfering. Anyone with a 10/22 really needs to start reading on rimfirecentral.

This is my first 10 22 so I don't have anything to go by if it's normal I'm okay with it. I just didn't know. It totally makes sense though, but I guess I'll know for sure when I get to try it. I was concerned it was the bolt handle I installed.
