No experience with savage, but when I lost the bolt on my Ruger American 22mag, I sent the rifle back to Ruger with a note explaining my stupidity. A few weeks later the rifle showed up with a new bolt, free of charge. So maybe give savage a call

It is probably going to have to go back to Savage to have a new bolt fit. Have you cleaned and inspected the firing pin? Next step is I would see if the head space has opened up due to wear on the bolt handle or reciever.

Lots of times crud gets into the hole where the firing pin is and doesn't let it travel the full distance. Take it apart and clean all the stuff out of the channel the firing pin travels in. Also if you have done a lot of dry firing you hay have damaged the firing pin from it hitting the steel barrel rather than brass cartridge.

guys, thanks. I didn't dry-fire a lot, though the bolt did go through at least a couple thousands round. I did clean the bolt a couple times, doesn't work well. it still fires and for the misfire ammo I usually can get it fire the 2nd time. Anyway, guess I will just call savage to get a new bolt.

          Appreciate and Merry Christmas

I don't think Savage is going to send you a new bolt. Some parts are classified by savage as "gunsmith/dealer only" and I believe the bolt falls in this category.

Did you disassemble the bolt prior to the start of this malfunction? Did you possibly put the retainer clip on backwards? There is a notch in one side of that c-clip and orientation is important to proper function.
