    Scope for .22 Target Silhouette?

Just got my new anshutz 1712 and am looking for a optic for it.
I was assuming id just get a 1-4x and be done with it, as that was what i have been shooting with my 10/22.

But when I asked the guy where i bought the rifle what scope he recomended, he mentioned a 6-20x40mm as the standard for most silhouette shooters.

I was thinking that would get awfully heavy to hold up since silhouette is all offhand.

Anyone out there that shoots silhouette or knows a good link to point me in the right direction?

Years back I used to shoot smallbore silhouette and I used a Weaver T-16. It is a great scope, but they don't make them anymore. Weaver makes a T24 or a T-36 now. I don't know why they dropped the 16 power.

I dont think you would need more then a 3-9 power scope. I never see the point in people dumping 150+ on rimfire scopes, there is no need. I have a Centerpoint 4-16X40 and it is the best scope i have ever owned on a rimfire. $69 bucks from Wallyworld. Mildot reticle, illuminated (red/green 7 levels), reseting turrets, ext. Awsome scope. I have a burris 3-9 that is killer for steel ducks

I have 20 .22 rifles, and shoot small-bore silhouette rifle. Your Anschutz 1712 is an outstanding weapon, and deserves a nice scope. A Leopold would go well, probably a 6-20 power. I have several types of scopes on my .22s. but, aside from the Unertl on my Anschutz 1813, my favorite scopes are a Simmons 6-24 on my Anschutz 64, and a Bausch & Lomb 6-24 on Frankenstein. Frankenstein has a Remington 40x action, Anschutz target trigger, Green Mountain barrel and Richard's microfit stock.

I run a Leupold 6x18x40 traget on an Anschutz 54...target knobs are great, sight in, mark with tape and dial your range at any time.

I'm a big fan of the newer Japanese made Weaver T series scopes. Great optics, bright, target knobs, settings repeat without error. I own a T-24 and two T-10s and love all of them. (They don't make the T10s any more but someone said they are a hot item on Ebay).
A friend who competes in bench rest matches from 100 to 200 yards and now owns three T36 Weavers. He is a top winner consistently and also loves the scopes.
You can pop four or five times as much for a Leupold Target 36 if the gold band blows your skirt up.
Aside from Leupold, Night Force is a super quality respected glass but it's a spendy brand.
I originally bought my T-24 Weaver for silhouette.

I'm a big fan of Bushnell's 4200 Elite series. Great optics for the price.
I have a 6-24x40 on my CZ 452 Varmint with a 1/4 moa dot that I use for silhouette and varmint shooting,
and the same make and model, but with a Mildot on my FX Typhoon air rifle used for the same. Both are great pieces of glass.
Whatever you decide on, Bear Basin Outfitters has some of the best prices around.

                        ^ That's a phenomenal scope; I have one on a .22-250 and it's fantastic.
