Trail-Lite Barrel for Buck Mark & Light Primer Strikes

I installed a trail lite barrel on my Buck Mark today and after about 60 rounds I began to experience light primer strikes 100% of the time. I suspect it is due to one of the following issues:

    1. The steel barrel is recessed too far into the aluminum sleeve leaving too little of the primer exposed, the firing pin can't hit hard enough before it comes into contact with the barrel. If you have a trail-lite barrel can you tell me if the barrel is recessed into the sleeve?

    or

    2. The height of portion of the barrel that the rail/sight base attaches too is too high, resulting in excess play in the slide assembly, resulting in the firing pin hitting too high and nearly missing too much of the primer.

I had that problem and finally figured out the 2 screws on top loosened up and the barrel was loose.

The barrel liner is supposed to be flush with the sleeve. If yours is not, contact Tac-Sol and they will promptly fix it. There have been instances of liner movement and it is a known issue. Two known issues with the barrels, liner movement and the mounting lug coming loose from the barrel shroud. I've been fortunate, mine has been on the gun several years without issues.

Thanks for the replies. Barrel is not loose. Sounds like the barrel is out of spec... will contact tac-sol and send it in. Thank you again.

I know this is a month old post but I it might help others with the same problem - almost guaranteed the top strap is loose. when assembling wrap the threads if the two screws in "plumbers" tape just a few wraps will do... it is not uncommon for the screws to back out when firing and when it happens the firing pin shifts up just enough to ensure a light strike. the plumbers tape trick is the basic go-to fix for this issue with the buckmarks

Pick up my new Buck Mark Camper this Friday night - you're talking about the two screws that hold the rear sight base/rail on, correct? Would blue loctite work also?

yes the two screws that hold the top strap/sight/rail on & yes loctite will work but don't put it on the threads - put a drop on the inside of the head of the screw... there is a reason that you don't want to put it on the threads but I don't remember it. I just remember that the general rule was plumbers tape on the threads & if you were going to compete with it you should also add some blue loctite on the head of the screw for that little bit extra. this is not something that I randomly came up with on my own - this has long been the advice given over on rimfire central

Thanks - I'm a member there so will dig around there and learn how to take care of my new pistola.
