    CMP tactical rimfire rifle shoot

Hello everyone, I recently got interested in getting into the CMP rimfire shoots. I recently purchased a 22lr ar15 upper from PSA ( 16” keymod model) and having a blast! I was wondering if anyone here has competed in the CMP rimfire tactical class? I’ve read the rules and it basically has to make rifle and trigger weight and scopes must be tapped off at 6X or under.

Are free floating barrels allowed in tactical class and as for scope, does it have to be set at 6x or under and used at that magnification throughout the entire shoot or adjusted throughout the shoot.

Thanks for any help and advice given.

free float is fine. One reason that might come up by mistake is that FF is NOT legal in a CMP Modern Military AR but that is a totally different 223 class.

edit - below is definitely true for f-class and midrange tactical and is the way I've always understood service rifle and scoped match rifle.
Looking again specifically at the Rimfire Sporter rules it sure looks like they want every variable locked into 1 magnification.
Presumably so more expensive variables have no advantage over cheaper fixed mag scopes.

I've practiced for this class many times but not actually shot officially yet. I would have been confused when they wanted to tape my 1.5-4.5

If you have a 1-6x variable you're fine to adjust it at will.

If you have, say a 3-9 they're supposed to tape it to make sure you don't cheat. That will probably mean you'll have to pick one mag <=6 to tape it at. I doubt they'll have any way to let it adjust but not go higher than 6.

If it's honor system then it's honorable to adjust between minimum and 6.

It would make your life and the officials easier if you get a scope that doesn't go over 6x

I am curious, what distances do they shoot at?

          sitting and prone 50yards
standing 25 yards - same target

there is also an indoor version - all 50 ft on 2 different targets

eta - the targets are huge and go all the way to a 1 ring
unlike a lot of other disciplines, new shooters almost never take zeroes
