Best Optic for a Ruger Precision Rimfire 22LR

Which would be the better optic for the Ruger Precision Rimfire 22 LR, a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x 44 or a Leupold VX R Patrol 3-9x40? Why? Use: Target / Long Range practice rifle.

For me, neither. I have a couple rifles with the Crossfire II 6-24x, very good for the price. I have several other brands as well, but I always stick to the higher powered scopes for my hand assembled rimfire rifles that are capable of excellent long range accuracy.

I think for pure target work the higher magnification the better.... 4x12 would be a minimum.... 5x15 about right for a .22 cal,,, 5x20 about max on the scopes I have seen or used.... The higher magnification quality scopes are hard for me to justify on a .22 rifle though... Butttttt hitting clays at 200 yards with a good 4x12 scope is a blast..
      Cheers...

Depends on how old your eyes are.
