Magpul Backpacker 10/22 w/standard forend

Can a person put a 10/22 Takedown into a Magpul Backpacker stock and put on the factory barrel and forend? I want to put a bull barrel (sorta) into the Magpul forend, but at times use the original barrel and forend.

Would it need any gunsmithing, or can I just buy one and bolt it on?

The packpacker forend snaps into the buttstock, why would you not want to use it?

It's the barrel. The original one would be much lighter. There would be times I'd rather use that one.
