New gsg 1911 22 first range trip

Excited to try out my impulse ($250) buy gsg 1911 22.

Sanded over spray off the slide rails, took out the magazine disconnect, lubed , grabbed some bulk ammo and went to the range.

After about 200 rounds I was pretty happy with it.

One stove pipe and a couple times the slide did not strip a round off the magazine but not enough problems to take the fun out of shooting it.

The target pictured was only@5yrds as I wasn't sure what kind of accuracy to expect or where the sights were going to be so I thought I'd make it easy and try not to be disappointed the first time out.

I think I'll take the drop safety 80 sieries stuff out .

Anyone tried the zrts barrel bushing sac mod?

It lets you get rid of the barrel holding screw...

I know a thing or two about impulse buys. 5 yards is close, but that's still pretty good shooting.

Glad to hear you are happy with your purchase!

I must have ~ 30k + rounds through mine with no major issues.

I did a review with CWA performance package upgrade in addition to a dawson precision fiber optic sight and in a nutshell here are my conclusions:

dawson f/o sight made a HUGE difference

CWA performance package did not make that big of a difference

CWA also makes a bushing (and screw kit) that lets you ditch the screw (which i am a big fan of)

I sure enjoy mine, good shooting even if it is only 15 feet

This is a fun gun to shoot. I am using the stock sight and it works fine. Do you know which Dawson F/O size corresponds to the stock sight?

            Thanks.

              Thanks I read your review.

ztrs sells a barrel bushing and modifies the stock barrel to work with the bushing keeping it CA legal.

I see you like that mod so I'll probably do it.

I've read that getting rid of the barrel screw raises poi. So the sights Dawson sells give the correct poi after you did the bushing mod? I know they offer a poi guarantee I'm just surprised the sight they sent you worked after the bushing mod.

btw: I run Dawson FO front sights on all my handguns...a black rear sight and fo front seems to work best for me.

In all honesty i do not know the stock size for dawson sights but you can just measure your existing sight with a caliper (see step 1 below and skip the rest of the steps)

I got 0.125" width and am pretty happy fyi

So you'll first want to perform the bushing mod. Take to the range and follow the procedure here to determine what height to order from dawson (worked great for me!)

Mine turned out to be as follows (note, yours will be different so follow the procedure in the link above)
Dawson Precision GSG 1911 .22 Fiber Optic Front Sights
                  .285" Tall x .125" Wide Ramped Serrated)

Super fun gun. Mine comes along with almost every range trip. The 1911 is my go to, so it's good to have a little plinker with the same battery or arms, more or less.

Thanks for this thread. I might purchase one of these soon. The 1911 is really the only semi-auto handgun I like enough to buy - I like 'em in all calibers and was about to buy the scaled-down Browning one, but the GSG caught my attention. Reviews seem to be consistently good as long as you use hot ammo.

Like tejosheh metioned, don't purchase anything from Dawson yet, until you install the barrel bushing. My CWA accessory bushing raised the point of impact so significantly that none of the stock sights worked anymore. I had to get a pretty tall sight from Dawson to get my GSG back to zero. I believe like tejosheh, I ordered a 0.285"

When you ordered from Dawson did you order a sight set or just a front sight?

                          Is your barrel threaded?

Just the front sight. The stock rear sight, while it is plastic, worked fine for me. Sorry I should stated “none of my stock front sights worked anymore “ after I replaced the bushing.

The GSG's sold in California looks like it has a threaded barrel, but it is usually welded in.
