I drilled a hole in the rear of the receiver. I can use a cleaning rod.
The hole also makes to a round-head screw in the stock to lock the receiver. Sort of a 'hidden rear tang'.

are you supposed to be able to thread on a brass brush or mop onto the end of the snakes?

I use a good .177 cleaning rod... muzzle end on .22s

            For decades.

#1 on the Otis system. Works great.

I use an older version of this kit and it's pretty general purpose for any type of gun.

                  Ill check out the otis.
By .223 i should have mentioned that its a bolt action with 24 in barrel. A lot of the snakes i see for 22 seem fairly short. I can us the rod on it but its be nice to have a snake for both at the range

There's a 22 boresnake for a pistol and for a rifle, which is longer.

The boresnake has some brass brush thistles built in to it.

It's a little more time consuming but when not using a bore snake, I'll feed (carefully) the cleaning rod from the muzzle end and then attach the brush to it while it's in the chamber and then pull it out. Basically it's the same as the Otis system. A good blast of cleaner and lots of swabs are needed for the chamber itself as it gets a lot of build up.

yeah, had the same thought. will probably do that for at home cleanings.
