    Chiappa .22 lever action

Any thoughts on it? Im in the market for a 22 lever action and the shop in my town has a henry and a chiappa. Id probably get a henry but ive heard the quality of the receiver is not so good and the bands holding the barrel and feed tube together are actually plastic. Yeah theres a lifetime warranty but if im spending 350 the least they can do is put some aluminum or stainless steel bands on it.

I did some research a few years ago. Not much of it was good. You can't beat the Henry H001. Maybe a used Winchester 94..

Henry stopped using plastic bands years ago

You're worried about the build quality of the Henry, so you're thinking about getting a Chiappa?

Chiappa's build quality can't be much better. It'll probably be worse. I'm assuming you're looking at the LA322. Unless you really need a takedown, I'd get the Henry.

You could also look at some used stuff. A pre-Freedom Group Marlin 39A would be a good find.

You might consider a Winchester 9422. Superb quality. It is more expensive but will last lifetimes and likely go up in value.

A Henry Golden Boy is first rate. It's worth the extra $.

Chiappas are twice the cost of a Henry. Never shot one, but looks pretty good with the checkering. Let us know how it shoots.

I have both the Henry H001 and the Winchester 94/22. The Henry is a nice gun for the cost. The Winchester is a much much better built gun. The Winchester is kind of a take down.

If money isn't an issue, get the used 94/22 or the Browning BL-22.

The chiappa at my gun store is on sale for about the same price as a henry, even so ive heard dubious things about it. I think im grabbing the henry.

If you had to choose between the browning or the winchester which would you choose? I tried a browning out and didnt like the trigger, but it was a nice solid rifle. I think a winchester would be ideal but i dont know if i feel like going through the hassle of buying a used gun. I appreciate quality as much as anyone else but this is a fun/no frills gun that will hopefully last a long time.

I choose the Winchester because I new a guy that had one that had never been shot. It took me years to talk him into trading it to me.

My Henry H001 is one of my most accurate rifles. It shoots 22LR, 22 shorts & CB Caps without issues. No problem with quality at all.

We recently took a group of a dozen church members to the range to shoot guns. That "cowboy gun" Henry H001 was a big hit and everyone there had to try it.

                        Get the henry.

The receiver cover is alloy but the parts inside are steel. As has been said, the bands have been metal for years. The Henry has the smoothest action of any lever action ever made. A very accurate rifle to boot. Yes, I have one-the H001 classic. I have shot the Marlin and the Winchester And prefer the Henry. Have not shot the Chiappa.

I had Henry H001 (the basic lever), now I want the Golden Boy. If I acquired the Golden Boy instead of H001 then I am all set.

I bought a Henry H001 many year ago soon after they first came out, as noted plastic barrel bands back then but a call to Henry customer service and they sent metal ones out for free. Nothing wrong with the receivers they actually a cover the finish appeared to be painted so I stripped mine and polished the receiver cover looks great.

I've read about this and seen a few pictures. They do look good after this has been done.
