Need help choosing reasonably priced .22lr rifle to shoot little groups off a bench

Hi, i'm looking for a nice .22lr rifle for shooting paper off the bench....objective is to have fun shooting little groups.

I could sure use your guidance and experience choosing among the following rifles. I'm trying to keep the cost of the rifle under $600 (not including optics etc.).

Savage Mark II, CZ452, CZ 455, Browning T-Bolt but open to other suggestions as well.

I prefer to stick with a bolt action and the ability to mount a scope. Not completely against a single shot. Would have loved to find a biathlon rifle but they're too expensive.

    thanks

Can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22 or a CZ 452 or 455 bolt action. I have both and the CZ is slightly more accurate. If you are really into precision shooting, then get a bolt action. If you want a fun plinker, then the 10/22 is hard to beat, especially since there are so much after market support and upgrades.

Ruger Percision just created a .22lr... retails for around 450$

But yes as stated above, I love my 10/22

a friend was also kind enough to suggest a Fedderson barrel the 10/22

i've got to learn more about this option as well

I too am looking at .22s. I'm probably going with a 10/22 backpacker Magpul edition and/or a Henry lever Repeater ("blued" model). Out the door I think I'm looking at $750, $600 if I opt for the standard 10/22 takedown. 22 ammo is cheap!

I have a CZ452 and I highly recommend it. It's discontinued so you either get it used or if you want new, then CZ455, which is the same as 452. Superb craftsmanship. I haven't shot a Savage.

I have both a highly modified 10/22 about $750 invested in it.
              I also have CZ 455 tactical $510

Both are great shooting guns but the CZ is slightly more accurate to shoot.

Several years ago I bought two 10/22's, and really enjoyed shooting them. Then I found out about the CZ's. I now have seven CZ's of different flavors and the 10/22's stay in the safe.
It takes money and modifications to get the 10/22's to shoot with the CZ's.

Another vote for CZ 452 American, beautiful rifle, gives you boring precision. Pay for a hand select through Whitakers

Just get a ruger 10/22. They are about $200 new. Mine is plenty accurate right out of the box.

was all set to call Whitakers for the American CZ when i saw the Tikka T1x on their website.....got to do some more reading.

Had never come across Whitakers, they have good prices. thanks for the recommendation.

I don't hear much about the Browning straight pull .22lr rifle, kind of intriguing with the straight pull bolt, reminds me a little of the biathlon system albeit with a horizontal bolt handle vs the vertical bolt handle.

No problem, they're well known in the rimfire community. Do your research but you won't find something better than the CZ for that price range. Get a hand select with nice wood and you'll have a great looking rifle you'll probably never want to let go of.

Find a mom and pop gun store that sells used/consignment guns. Look for an old Sears/Wards/Stevens/Marlin etc from the 60's or so. They are as accurate as anything on the market today.

I've got newer .22's from Savage, Ruger and Browning but my 1960's Sears shoots just as well if not better than all of them.

Spend the rest on ammo and a good scope.

take a look at the CMP. they sometimes have some nice ones new/used cheap. Checked - out of used and new only to clubs - unless you want to part with $1600 http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sa...et-commercial/
