Canned Air

No, but I use it to blow dust off my riflescopes. I like Hornady One-Shot aerosol cleaner/dry lube for my semi-auto .22s. Use the extension tube and it gets into all the cracks and crevices. -
I use it all the time, buy it in three packs at Office Depot. I do not use it on optics though. One errant spritz of super cold liquid from the can and there goes the lens coating. Scope instructions usually warn against the practice. I use a camera lens cleaning kit on optics. One Shot is really good stuff, I use it on every rim fire I own as well as centerfire lock-works for cleaning and lube. Slide rails and bolts get TW-25 grease.sigpic

If you mean turning the can upside down and blasting with the cold liquid, I do that to clean a lot of things. But as others have said, be careful what you do that with. The "air" isn't really air, it's a gas and has some cleaning properties in and of itself. And, of course, it's very cold. Don't use it for cleaning guns but have charged more than a few R134 auto AC systems with it...Comment

If you are using it to clean guns with, you are wasting your time and money. You are much better off going to Harbor Freight and buying yourself one of those small, portable air compressors. They have a LOT more force, (most will easily generate 90+ PSI), and are very inexpensive.
There are all types of attachments available for them to reach into small, tight places. You can wash out actions, and field stripped auto pistols with clean Kerosene. Then blast them dry with compressed air. You will be amazed at how much dirt you can flush out of a action this way. And Kerosene will not harm plastic or wood stocks. After you blow everything clean and dry, relubricate and your gun will be cleaner than the day you bought it. Something like this is small enough to keep in a bedroom closet of an apartment dweller. And it will work 10 times better and cheaper than any of that "canned air" ever will.

Or do you mean cleaning the rifle itself ? I am a huge fan of blasting the crapola out of all my rifles with Non Chlorinated brake cleaner, not a substitute for solvent, but for a few bucks a can, its great as a first pass to clear out all the debris and gunk rather than just moving it around while cleaning.Comment

I like Hornady One Shot Cleaner and Dry Lube since, as its name implies. it both cleans fouling, residue, etc out by leaves a dry lubricant behind, unlike a lot of the "blaster" type cleaners that leave totally unprotected metal behind. I use it on all my semi-auto firearms with the fine hose attached to create more pressurized spray. (Not to replace lube on slide rails, etc.)Comment
