    Ruger Ameriican Rimfire question

I fired a friends new Ruger American Rimfire in 22LR last week and when you operate the bolt, it sounds like a chunky person walking in corduroy pants. Vvzzzzt. Vvzzzzt. Vvzzzzt. It was kind of hard to believe. All of my bolt guns operate very smoothly and silently.

Are all of the Ruger rimfire bolt guns like this? I didn't have an opportunity to inspect it and see if any cause was evident. It was not difficult to operate, just noisy. But it gave me the impression something was causing excessive friction in the action.

Mine was a little rough and noisy when I first got it. Several dry cycles revealed some high spots on the underside of the bolt. A little judicious work with a stone took care of them.

I think mine makes the vvzzzzt noise too. But it only has one mag thru it and sits in the safe.

            Mine makes the same noise.

But that's because I'm wearing it tucked down one leg of my corduroy pants as I walk down the street.

In aeriousness, it does that because, if you look at the machining on the bolt, it has an actual corduroy appearance and texture. It doesn't affect function or accuracy, but if it is bothersome to you, I imagine some elbow grease and metal polish cam smooth it out. I like my Ruger American Rimfire very much, vzzzzzt vzzzzzt sound and all...

So I was at a LGS this week and they had a Ruger Precision Rifle. It was already spoken for, but the shop owner got it out to show me. He had some difficultly getting the bolt in and wouldn't you know it, the dang thing sounded just like my buddy's American Rimfire. Vzzzzt. Vzzzzt. Pretty disappointing what wth all the hype and the premium price on their "precision" rimfire. Makes me wonder, is the ruger precision rimfire just a ruger American rifle action in a chassis?

Just not impressed with Ruger these days.

Most of us have couple guns liked that .

Back to OP post: If it still make noise after 2K rounds then may be an issue.

I am not sure I would want to patronize a gun shop that sells a gun and then lets it get handled. Once it is bought, it should be put away. What if some guy drops it, scratches it on the counter, etc? The shop owner had problems operating it - Futzing around with it to get the bolt in....
