96 cent diy cheek riser for rimfire rifles

Purchased a 88 cents+tax plastic cutting board from Wally World, cut a template out of printer paper, then transferred it out to the board. I used a bandsaw to remove the material, and used a heat gun and a 2x4 to bend the plastic. It takes a little more heat than kydex, but holds the form really well. Honestly did not want to order a sheet of kydex and also wanted some thicker material, and wanted to knock the project out in one day. I also used a Dremel to create the slots where I will use Velcro straps to mount on to the buttstock. The material also holds spray can paint very well.

Ask and you shall receive, I used some foam as a spacer, but I have also seen wood used to keep it from dropping down. I used cable management Velcro straps, I had a pack of hundred that I use around the house. I have also seen other forms of mounting as well, some who cut horizontal slots and use bolts to keep it stationary with out any spacers, but to each his own on the way of mounting it.

Also if you’re curios on how I made the stencil, I can post that as well

The commercially made risers are so thick that they push or place my check wield so far to the left that the scope's reticle appears canted. When I remove the riser, the reticle looks straight again. (I sometimes suspect that Savage is in business with Boyds). I'd like to see a plastic/kydex riser that mounts or attaches to the butt stock plate; basically the way Ruger has their American Rim fire fashioned. It would be nice is Magpul made a stock or a riser. Thanks again. I hope the riser works for you.
I actually offset this riser a little to the right, the bend was not made in the center, it set to the right for that very reason, I have noticed that many of the commercial risers tend to bend right on the middle and that causes a lot of problems especially in the prone position, but so far this has been working great for me. I rolled up the foam really tight and taped it down. before I applied the riser, I also applied some fine adhesive grip tape on the inside to keep it from shifting as extra insurance, on the plus side it only cost me $1. planning on making a few more.

Perhaps 2" in comb height, and the length of the raised area of the plastic stock. Maybe router a centered rounded channel along the length of the lumber, such that it sits on top of, and cups the stock. Naturally, there would be some shaping and sanding required. Getting the attached piece to stay tightly in-place might require drilling from the top, straight down through the factory stock.

But then again, I might just wait for Magpul to market a riser.
I appreciate your replies and comments on your experiences. I honestly just wanted to see if it was possible. In my my honest opinion, I think you understand what you want out of a riser as I understand what i want out of one as well. Everyone is different, and for a company to satisfy both our needs, there is going to be a compromise, and we will both loose something out of it. That permanent riser you are describing sounds very interesting, would love to see it . I’m sure it’ll be an awesome setup, and it give our fellow calgunners more options.
